One of my biggest fears in having a vaunted passing attack is that the OC becomes infatuated with using it, devising schemes to outsmart their opponent, almost (or often times) to a fault. The notion of being the offensive genius trumps good, sound football.

To me, the genius is the one who doesn't make the game more difficult than it needs to be and freaking pounds the football with a solid running game. That is smart football. Takes all the heat off your QB, opens things up for your WRs in play action, and is a reward to your OL to let them TEE OFF on the opposing defense... Most of the recent, and not so recent SB winners had that kind of balance and used it.

Debating whether I want to wade in this pool of debate again.. or dive in? Wade.. wade it is.

Go back to the late 2010 season and look at the numbers that will disprove that we couldn't and didn't run the ball in that postseason.

Without out it.. winning either the Eagles or Bears game is not a lock.

Eagles game.. 32 rushes 138 yards.

Bears Game.. 32 rushes 120 yards on a cold track in which the passing game wasn't overly effective.

We could run when we needed to run.. drastic difference between last season and 2010.

{drying my toes off.. all five of them}

Both Bradshaw and Jacobs were fighting injuries last year. Both got healthy enough for the playoff run, teaming for 172 yds v. ATL, 92 v. GB, 85 v. SF. Jacobs had more carries in 2011 (152) than he did in 2010 (147), in only 14 games.

Ahmad Bradshaw had 171 attempts in only 12 games. In 2010 he had -276- for 1235 yds.

Grant and Starks had 134 and 133 attempts respectively last year. Huge difference.

The running game attributed to the Packers winning the Super Bowl in 2010. Do we forget how James Starks was the "savior" in a good deal of media's eyes? The running game opened up a lot for the Packers passing game. Control the line's of the game, you control the game.

Packers had a good run per carry average during the 2010 playoffs including the Super Bowl. I haven't checked the Giants, but they probably did too.

I would ordinarily reiterate my years past statement "just run the damn ball" but unfortunately with the current talent and coaching staff the Green Bay Packers can't "run the damn ball".
So they are a one dimensional football team with a shitty defense that spends way too much time on the field because the offense can't control the clock or put other defenses off balance.

It is what it is so lets just line up, throw the ball and hope Aaron Rodgers has another unbelievable year.

Cedric Benson doesn't fit this team and Starks and Green have an injury bug so there it is.
Just throw the damn ball and hope for the best.

Unlike the over hype and sense of false confidence that we had going into the playoffs last season.. this season they got a early dose of truth burger rammed down their throats early.. with a bit of hot sauce to boot.

Yoop.. I hold out hope that it has hit home. And that change.. actual change will commence.

While we might be challenged to become a dominant defense in the near future, I think we some balance and ball control from the offense coupled with what we know is a elite passing game, we can assist the defense until they get some confidence and at least can set the tempo once in a while.

I watched the Ravens last night just to see it.. a team that can win in every facet of the game. Up til now, they lacked a QB that could complete them.. Flacco, much like Smith, has grown and excelled within the framework of the offense. And they destroyed a decent Bengals team. They tore the will out of the Bengals in the early third quarter.. it was an ass kicking from there. No comebacks.. the Bengals were whipped.

Now, back to the original topic.

Did we get the wrong RB with Cedric Benson? I've heard a lot of football fans say that he needs a certain amount of carries to get going. As a primarily passing team, Benson may have been the wrong guy to get.

I still haven't heard the true reason we haven't signed Grant. Did he ask for too much $$$? Or is Grant too injured to be any good? I'm guessing it's the latter.

Zero2Cool (9h) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (9h) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (11h) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (12h) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job
dfosterf (13h) : Martha- C'est mon boulot! 😁
Zero2Cool (13h) : Thank you
wpr (13h) : Z, glad you are feeling better.
wpr (13h) : My son and D-I-L work for UM. It's a way to pick on them.
Zero2Cool (13h) : Thank you. I rarely get sick, and even more rarely sick to the point I can't work.
wpr (13h) : Beast- back to yesterday, I CAN say OSU your have been Michigan IF the odds of making the playoffs were more urgent.
dfosterf (13h) : Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
Zero2Cool (14h) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.
Zero2Cool (14h) : It is a big deal. This host is having issues. It's frustrating.
Martha Careful (14h) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (14h) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (14h) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Oh snap!!!
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Even Stevie Wonder can see that.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Nah, you see Lions OC leaving to be HC of Bears is directly related to Packers.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ohhhhhhh Zero is in TROUBLE
packerfanoutwest (21-Jan) : Zero, per your orders, check Bearshome, not packershome
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Then he'll land with another team and flourish.
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Ben going to Bears. He'll be out in 3 years.
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : what's so funny?
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Bears are finalizing a deal to hire Ben Johnson as their head coach. (via @tompelissero )
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : Looks like Lions OC Ben Johnson is going to be the Bears coach
