Different times.
Today, the NFL BEGS you to pass. You practically look at a QB or a WR wrong, and a penalty is called on you.
You only get one contact with the receiver and that has to be within 5 yards.
Completely different rules from those days.
Let's not forget that we had Hall of Fame OL in those days as well. The only possible Hall of Famer on our OL right now is Saturday, and he's at the end of his career (a stop gap until we draft and/or develop another C).
Back to the original topic, we should have mixed it up. Starks was inactive (if I'm not mistaken, 🇲🇲 said he wasn't 100% back from his injury in the preseason). So that leaves us Kuhn, Green, and the occasional Cobb trick play. Why didn't they get any carries? And why didn't we try at least one reverse?
Benson up the middle for 2 yards isn't gonna win you any games (unless those are all goal line runs, which they weren't).
