My prediction for the 1st 2 rounds are Konz and James running back from Oregon :)

Injured players rarely work out. Flanny did, but that was like 3 years in the making, or more... my hope is that Ted never drafts another player with a recent injury history. Never. Why take the chance? I could see later rounds, a guy who is spiraling down the draft boards, a really good player with a good prognosis. OK. Draft him later. But not first couple of rounds. Please, no.

To be blunt, this article, Joe, is pretty much an analysis of what Ted himself has stated after he drafted BJ Raji: when players are rated similar on the Packers board, need comes into play in making a selection. Frankly, if people are still doubting those words after they came from Ted... well let's just say they might need to reconsider the sources they do believe.

It's hard to argue that Ted should be willing to pick injury prone players in the first few rounds considering our results, but I'm not too worried if he drafts someone who seems to have missed games his last year due to a nagging injury.

I'd love to get a candid look at what Ted thinks about taking players who have consistently been injured throughout their college careers considering the past results of this. I highly doubt it would, at present, be a marginal factor. I dare say another high pick used on a DL who has trouble staying healthy might lead us to yet another early playoff exit.

How do draft boards get set up in their ranking?

Do they give certain players a higher grade in certain rounds or is it by the teams need or do they rank the top 300 players ... or mixture of everything or what?

I'm curious how best player available can be different for every team ... and I believe that to be true. The best player available when the Packers are picking is going to be different than the Colts. Right?

Do they have a contingency plan in case communications break down in the base war room; such as, a small team in another location to take over in worst case scenario?

I think I've seen pictures of an old school draft board with velcro names and such up on the wall. That, to me, seems incredible inefficient and cumbersome, but it wouldn't surprise me if that's still how Thompson works. It would seem OK as a back up plan, but a more sophisticated system would seem ideal.

I thought a few years ago Ted Thompson said they rate their top 300 players and then simply pick the best player left. That also helps them decide which free agents they are going to try and sign. But there's got to be more to it than that unless the rating system is very complex.

Ted Thompson had this to say when asked about addressing the needs on defense.

We won’t do it intentionally. We don’t draft that way. Draft for long-term investment not immediate or perceived need.

Yeah, recent. Still recovering at the combine. I don't think we want someone else who CAN'T go till midseason (like Neal), after he is fully recovered, or worse. Those dudes are susceptible to re-injury as well. If we're going to burn an R2 or an R3 on a DE, I'd rather he's fully healthy and ready to rock.

I'd rather have that than another great C in R3, and we miss out on advancing because Raji wore down, with the great C being maybe 0.5 points higher on the board.

I believe we did that last year with the Sherrod pick. And I think we've done it at other times too. I would like for us to stock for the run now, while we have this assembly of talent on O ready to rumble. They can't all stay together for another 2 or 3 years. At least, that is highly unlikely. We should be looking to strike that hot iron now.

And yes, I have been called "=d> a smart ass" too.

Ted's job is safe. It is just that his legacy should be the builder of a dynasty. Don't reload when you lose key elements, and we saw what happened last year. Could have been back to back had Ted made the concerted effort to reload in FA and the draft for Jenkins' loss. Hell, he should have never lost the guy. Monster mistake.

On if he learned anything from drafting disappointing and oft-injured Tennessee defensive tackle Justin Harrell 16th overall in 2007:
Ted Thompson: No. We did our research with that pick, too. The fact that it didn’t work out is my responsibility.

hmm... what do ya think about that lol
