But you said in another post he would get another big payday. Why would he get another big payday if he was going to be a declining player.

All I know is that several of us were discussing a Williams restructuring, you came in and said we were pulling stuff out of our asses (not sure where you are getting your inside information from) and then started harping on the importance of signing Shields, a point on which no one disagrees.

I also agree with you that cutting Williams is a distinct possibility. I pretty much said as much when I said it is not very likely that Williams will play for the Packers in 2014 with a 9.5 million cap hit. The other option is a restructure which I think is more likely.

I see Shields getting the franchise tag to tell you the truth.

I think an extension for tramon is more likely. You can guarantee his 9m or whatever so he still gets it and tack on a few years at a reasonable yearly average to lower the cap hit. Everyones happy. He played some great football towards the 2nd half of the year anyways and it was the first times since his injury that he started looking like his old self. Hes one of the few players that actually stepped up and played this year instead of dropping off when things were looking bad after rodgers went down.

Another player I would love for Ted to sign in FA is Bernard Pollard, SS from TEN. Maybe move Morgan Burnett to FS or add another FS altogether in the draft. Pollard is an enforcer. Just the kind of veteran presence we need at S.

EDIT: Guess so.

Impending free agent SS Bernard Pollard expressed a desire to return to the Titans. "I do want to come back, but some things have to be done right for me to be here," Pollard said. What he's referring to is unclear, but Pollard did voice support for coach Mike Munchak. Pollard, 29, signed a one-year deal with Tennessee and has registered a career-high 134 tackles in 2013. He's been solid against the run, as usual, and is a top-18 safety at Pro Football Focus. Fri, Dec 27, 2013 09:11:00 AM

My best guess at what Ted will do with the Packers Free Agents going into 2014.

Tramon Williams will restructure or he will be cut(don't want that) (apprx 7 mil )
Other players that can restructure to create more cap space

Jordy Nelson
Brian Bulaga
AJ Hawk
Brad Jones
I can see Ted working new deals with(some or all of) these guys that should free up another 7 mil

That would give The Packers around 37 mil under the cap.

Unrestricted
1.QB Seneca Wallace.........gone

2.QB Matt Flynn(4yrs, vet min, + bonuses(1.5 mil cap)

3.FB John Kuhn(2 yr, vet min, +bonuses(1.5 mil cap)

4.RB James Starks(2yrs vet min 3mil signing bonus) apprx 2.5 mil(cap)

5.RB Kahlil Bell...gone

6.WR James Jones(2 yrs vet min, 3 mil signing bonus, ) apprx 2.5 mil(cap)

7.TE Jermichael Finley...gone

8.TE Andrew Quarless(2 yrs vet min, + bonuses) 2 mil (cap)

9.T Marshall Newhouse..gone

10.C Evan Dietrich-Smith(prob gone will get offer Packers can't match)

11.DT Johnny Jolly(1 yr vet min + bonuses) 1.5 mil (cap)

12.DT Ryan Pickett(1 yr vet min + bonuses) 2mil(cap)

13.DT B.J. Raji..gone

14.DE C.J. Wilson(4 yr 1.5 mil + 2 mil signing bonus) 2 mil (cap)

15.DE Mike Neal(4 yr 1.5 mil + 2 mil signing bonus) 2 mil (cap)

16.LB Robert Francois...gone(someone will offer him more than Packers can afford)

17.CB Sam Shields(Must Sign, best guess 4 yrs) 6 mil(cap)

Restricted
1.LB Jamari Lattimore (Ted will match any offer) (best guess 2mil cap)

2.S M.D. Jennings..gone (will get an offer which will make Teds job easy)

That's 25.5 mil which would leave around 10 mil for rookies and other FA.

I am probably 100% wrong here, but if I am close, I don't see much room for Ted to sign any top Free Agent.

I was addicted to The Hokey Pokey, but I turned myself around!

Don't we have any carryover cap space from this season that can help us out? I thought we were 7.25 mill under the cap this year?

Good leg work Buckeye. I disagree that Jordy and Hawk will restructure, so I think it's wishful thinking that there will be that much space left, I also doubt Jones would sign for that little. I think he'd be willing to stay for some sort of a hometown discount, but I think that's way too much of a discount from what he'd be offered elsewhere.

I'm nitpicking though, good post.
