He is not coming off a pretty good year. He didn't have a sack at all in the last 10 or 11 games after coming out like a ball on fire getting all his sacks in the first 4-5 games.

Everything else you said I completely agree with and I know that will make you sleep gooder tonight! haha

But why didn't Babin start getting doubled and Jenkins stats rise after it was obvious the beast that Babin is? Why was Babin still getting sacks and Jenkins didn't register one the last 10 or so games of the season?

I like Cullen Jenkins, I knew I'd miss him, and it happened, but I don't think Cullen Jenkins is the god damn cure all Superman some naively make him out to be.

With that said, Eagles, cut Cullen Jenkins. Packers, sign him!

Not only that Rios, but when someone from the edge breaks through, you step forward and release.

When someone from right up the middle breaks through, you hold on to the football as you're going down.

It does bring up a good point, or rather a question for me. A rush up the middle or pressure on the outside? The pressure from the outside, is that both sides or one? It's easy to step up in the pocket with an outside rush, plus it's easier for a Tackle to block an outside rusher than inside, right? As a Tackle you can slide him out wide... you can't do that with an inside rush. Plus an outside rusher you can chip with a TE and/or RB.

After going back an forth between my two brain cells... I think I'd rather a rush up the middle regardless if it's a mobile QB or not.

Sacks don’t necessary dictate the impact a player is having. Clay Matthews is somewhat of an example of that, as he still disrupted and made an impact, despite a low sack total. Nobody else did much, however. I didn’t watch the Eagles play every week, but when I did watch them, I thought Jenkins played well. I don’t think Ted Thompson will pursue him, though. The Packers have won 11, 14, and 15 games in the last three years drafting and developing young players. That is the formula and Jenkins doesn’t fit the bill anymore.

In regards to a rush up the middle or outside, then I suppose it depends on the player. Am I getting consistent pressure up the middle? If so, I'll take that any day because it's closer to the QB. It'll disrupt the pass more and I think most QBs are more dangerous when they can step up in the pocket. Brady and Brees are examples. Rodgers is a rare exception. However, consistent pressure up the middle is very, very rare. Certainly, Jenkins doesn't provide that. Let's not go overboard.

WhA!!!? Stats don't tell the full story!! BLASPHEMY!!! Yes they do! You're absolutely correct, he played a role in the Eagles sacks, but HE himself did not have a good season, at least last 10 or so games. The handful of Eagles games I unfortunately seen, he didn't do anything other than look tough playing patty cake with the OL. Then again, 5.5 sacks for a DT ... I can't hold it against him that those were all within the first half dozen or so games. That's good production out of a DT if you ask me objectivly. I guess I'm just sick of some thinking Cullen Jenkins was the magic answer to the Packers when there's far more bigger issues with the defense. Tackling was an issue last year too.

But yes, Cullen Jenkins would have helped the pass rush ... even if he had just one frickin arm. In. My. Opinion.

With a guy like Rodgers if the outside rushers decide to rush really wide he can cut that off and run between the tackle and guard and it's big trouble. So I would say pressure up the middle would be more disruptive to him as well, if anything else, cause it takes his mind off the reads for just a second.

Now in 2010 we were so good cause Raji and Jenkins were bringing the pressure up the gut and when the QB would try to reset, clay would be there. If Clay brought initial pressure they try to avoid and step right into the inside rush.

You don't really need sacks from a guy like Jenkins, but the rush up the middle will cause a big issue for most passing offenses. Forcing quick throws possibly right into where our first zones are standing. You rarely seen deep throws into our secondary last year due to this kind of pass rush and having Nick Collins back there for good measure.

Sometimes a threat is as good as a promise in the world of sacks. If you have equal threats on edge or one on the edge and one on the line, it'll be a promise you'll have solid pressure.
