Oh... and to answer the OP question.. depends on the contract that Jenkins would want if he becomes free.

Did we miss him on the line.. absolutely.

Have the associated risks with Jenkins changed.. injury prone, no.. so it would have to be a fair contract, incentive based, for both parties.

Nothing has changed in that regard.. except that we will bid farewell to Clifton this off season and may have an opening in which to gamble a couple million upon.

Ted does gamble at times on players with high dollars and injury concerns... see Harrell and Clifton as lead examples.

That said.. we have two more players that might be entering that range.. Woodson and Driver.

So it really is cost verse availability verse production verse the next guy in line.

Now going back to your previous comment, that's what I've been saying all season. You either pressure the QB, or you pay the price. It has become a passing league because of rule changes. I know you don't like it. I'm not anti-RB, as my wife can tell you I was a big fan of Wallie Payton and am currently a big fan of Adrian Peterson. She got me an Adrian Peterson action figure for X-Mas that's on my home Linux box.

But rule changes are rule changes. We can either complain about them or exploit them.

We gotta pressure the QB or else we're not going all the way. We made Eli look good when he had literally 5 or 6 seconds back there.

Jenkins provides the push up the middle that none of our current Packers provide. Simply put. Without the push up the middle, opposing Os can focus squarely on CM3 because they know nobody else is gonna get through.

Look at our sack total this year. It was pathetic.

And Jenkins aside, Dom needs to stop rushing 3. If he continues to rush 3 next year, I'll once again call for his resignation.

I don't know college. You all know college better than I do. IF there's nobody in college we can pickup to replace Jenkins, then let's sign Jenkins.

If Jenkins had played in only four games(KC and the Playoffs) for us all this year we may have been undefeated.

Zombie..

My thoughts on Cullen last offseason.. hasn't changed..

http://packershome.com/tabid/63/g/posts/t/12872/Will-Cullen-Jenkins-be-a-bigger-loss-than-the-Packers-think.aspx

I have said it a number of times, Jenkins is a very valuable player on the Packers defense.. maybe even more so in the 3-4 and sub packages that Dom deploys.

Durability seems to be the only real question, but even then the cat has played through injuries.. you don't find a ton of 3-4 lineman that can create pressure effectively.. teamed with Raji.. the Packers defense has two.. and maybe more if Neal comes on.

Seems to be the card the Packers are intent on playing.. that Neal can step in and provide a similar level of production..

This is probably the biggest drama that Packers have on their hands this offseason, whenever the lockout ceases.. and the bodes very well for the team overall.

That said... I would prefer holding onto Jenkins for a couple of years yet.. even at a slightly bloated contract.

Haven't dug into the class coming out... but I am sure there are options. Personally... if I had a say.. I would run a varied front scheme.. mixing 3 and 4 man down fronts to keep an offense checking on its protection packages throughout the game.. and changing the points of attack.

There are going to be more teams that exploit the short rhythm passing game.. it is going to turn into a game of batting and changing the delivery points of a QB more than smacking him in the mouth.

Speed and length are going to become a premium.. until it gets to a point where you can gut them with the run... like it or not the NFL is circular.. albeit with the rule changes it will be somewhat morphed going forward.

I truly hope Ted would consider resigning Jenkins. With the way athletes condition nowadays, a player who is 31 is not considered old. Jenkins could still have 5-6 years of productivity left in him, especially at the 5 spot. He would strengthen our run D, pass D, and locker room toughness (which in my opinion was sorely lacking this year). Additionally, he would keep Mike Neal and Raji from getting too many reps and worn down late in games and late in the season. We all noticed Raji losing effectiveness this year due his extended playing time.

An additional outside linebacker is still a priority this offseason, but resigning Jenkins is a no brainer. Another season of Jarius Wynn/Howard Green/CJ Wilson, just won't cut it.

If I were the Eagles, I would be doing my best to hold onto him if at all possible. I think they actually acknowledge the value he can bring to a team.

For a RB, it's probably 31 is the new 30. But Jenkins is not a RB.

So yes, I'm agreeing with you. He probably still has a few solid years left in him yet.

And Pack93z, I read what you said. I'm well aware that 🇹🇹 and 🇲🇲 were thinking about his availability when they made the decision. It turns out they were wrong in 2011. He was available. But alas, hindsight is 20/20.

I would like Cullen Jenkins on my team.. just I wouldn't go top premium dollar to do so. Compensate him well... but not lets say top 10 in the league type money.

My personal opinion of why we dropped from #2 to #19 in D last year, if someone said "Zombieslayer, what is the #1 reason?", I'd say it's the lack of pass rush.

So if 🇹🇹 and I changed jobs, would I pay top 10 money? To be honest, yes. I'd pull the trigger and keep my fingers crossed that he plays the entire season.

And of course my draft would be more D than O.

I think he'd come back in a heartbeat, but the Packers will have to obviously pay him a good sum of money. He's coming off a pretty good year for the Eagles, so Jenkins will not be a cheap signing. In other words, pay him and any hurt feelings go away. The NFL is a business and most players understand this.
