So I started working out just over a month ago doing the BeachBody Insanity workout. It's mainly cardio stuff and I do recommend it to anyone. It's really good. I don't think I've been this toned since High School sports, lol.

I get up at 5:15am currently, do the work out, shower, head to work. I've been struggling the last few days with waking up and fully pushing myself. After this week is up, I start the Max interval training and am wanting to push myself extremely hard the last 4 weeks.

The question I have is, what can I take/drink/eat to wake me up sooner in the morning?

I was thinking 5 hour energy drink, someone suggested Emergen-C.

Any ideas?

Me... I pop B-6, B-12, Niacin and Folic acid in the morning along with my normal daily vitamin and morning snack.

There is a noticeable difference in my energy levels and body responses with that regiment.. however read up on the B's vitamins and the risks that go along with taking elevated levels of each.

For sure B-6 and B-12 should give you more energy. If you are having a 5 hour energy in the morning, you should be careful of what vitamins you are taking, as the 5 hour is loaded with high amounts of many vitamins already (and overload can cause liver problems long term.)

As with most things - moderation is your friend.

At most, I'd be taking one 5 hour energy a day for six days a week. I don't work out on Sundays. Although when I start the P90x, that might change.

This time of year, I'm in weight gain mode. I drink 3 pots of coffee, sit on my ass at work and home. In April I go back to my 80 hour work days and go into weight loss mode, where I don't eat dinner or breakfast.

Work Out!!!! What??? Are you guys crazy? Just getting out of bed is a workout for me, then I crawl to the bathroom, forget what I'm there for, and slowly get up on my feet so I can walk to the kitchen, get coffee, sit down on the couch, and promptly fall asleep until my wife hits me across the head and reminds me not to forget to vacum the living room while she's at work. Oh, and in the winter I'm shoveling 8,000 friggin' feet of snow every other day.

That's my workout. And I'm stickin' to it.

Another good thing to drink in the morning is Green Tea. It has antioxidants AND caffeine. So, good for you and wakes you up. Just be careful with all those energy drinks without any food in your stomach. We've had 2 co-workers go down on the line with dizziness and shortness of breath because they drove in early, had no food in their stomach, and downed 1 or 2 Rockstar energy drinks or something similar.

I'm assuming you mean to take this BEFORE your workout? Usually, all the blood flowing from exercise is plenty to wake someone up in the morning. Maybe 10 minutes on a stationary bike or some warm-up stretching/jumping jacks/etc will help get the blood flowing.

I envy you for working out in the morning. Even in high school, I could barely tolerate morning runs. Just can't do it.

I just did Chest Shoulders & Biceps and Ab Ripper X from p90x tonight. It's a really good upper body workout. I'm impressed. The Ab Ripper X has a few good exercise moves, but Insane Abs from Insanity is far superior.

I think I'm going to go back to Insanity tomorrow morning and might mix the Chest Shoulders & Biceps workout into the routine instead of the Plyometrics.

http://stronglifts.com . I went from 160 to 195 over the course of a summer using this program. It is extremely simple (no need to change your routine all the time), but it WORKS:

Zero2Cool (7h) : Raiders hired someone from the elderly home.
dfosterf (9h) : I'm going with a combination of the two.
beast (11h) : Either the Cowboys have no idea what they're doing, or they're targeting their former OC, currently the Eagles OC
Zero2Cool (23-Jan) : Fake news. Cowboys say no
Zero2Cool (23-Jan) : Mystery candidate in the Cowboys head coaching search believed to be Packers ST Coordinator Rich Bisaccia.
beast (23-Jan) : Also why do both NYC teams have absolutely horrible OL for over a decade?
beast (23-Jan) : I wonder why the Jets always hire defensive coaches to be head coach
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Martha- C'est mon boulot! 😁
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you
wpr (22-Jan) : Z, glad you are feeling better.
wpr (22-Jan) : My son and D-I-L work for UM. It's a way to pick on them.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you. I rarely get sick, and even more rarely sick to the point I can't work.
wpr (22-Jan) : Beast- back to yesterday, I CAN say OSU your have been Michigan IF the odds of making the playoffs were more urgent.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : It is a big deal. This host is having issues. It's frustrating.
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Oh snap!!!
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Even Stevie Wonder can see that.
