Well, I didn't watch the game but nobody answered my question. I think I've asked this it on several threads. What happened to Kuhn? How come we didn't put him in there on those 4th and 1s? Was he suited up?

I'm not for all pass. I think it depends on the circumstance. Atlanta's weakness is defending the pass so that's why I'm adamant about passing against them. The Giants however are #1 in the NFL at defending the pass so we better be able to run against them.

Now, someone please answer my question - what happened to Kuhn?

Idk thats a good question I didn't really see that much of him these past 2 games at all..

Maybe he"ll go back to his fb roll or something, honestly don't have an answer to where he has been.

For the most part ill answer your question,I think he hasn't played much because of how Mike McCarthy Gameplaned for the last 2 games with not to much I-formations.V.S the falcons idk if he even carried the ball once he just played as the 3rd down back in shotgun sometimes..

Could be like the A.J hawk situation in week 1 sorta thing but who knows.

I asked this same question multiple times in the chat and after - wtf was kuhn; I remember him only getting 1 play that game and I think it was a pass.

Here we were at the endzone 3rd and 1 and we give it to rodgers to sneak 2x against the falcons stiff run D.

2 things stood out for me with the packers and short yardage plays. We often were successful with short passes to kuhn (remember last year hom many times we saw kuhn in the endzone holding the ball ...)
and #2 with big quinn as our lead blocker and big kuhn as our RB ... those 2 could often get the job done.

We didnt even use him on our other 4th and 1 that rodgers called us to do.

and btw - where's the freaking screens? ... ok so we cant run vs the falcons; how about some short yardage screens? with some lead blockers ... just cuz taucher is out doesnt mean we cant screen.

anyways - seems like we were trying to do some things that were different and yet didnt work when we could of done some things that would of probably worked.

But this topic is about 5 wr sets ... and ya do what works ...

Had he gone to the 5, that opens up a running lane for Rodgers, which would keep the defense "honest".
And the runs were NOT WORKING. That's my point. Should we do it every game? No....i never said that. But in THIS game running got us NOTHING. Unless it was Rodgers taking off.
Am i wrong about that?

Zombieslayer and others have convinced me on the "balance" question. And while I still hanker for the return of running game "dominance", I realize that the game has changed.

But I'm still with Shawn and macbob.

Because a team still needs to be able to do some things running-wise. There must be some situations that the opposing team must be considering "run play" as a credible option.

1. Play action only works to the extent that people believe you might be calling a running play.
2. When it's first and goal inside the ten, the opposing team has to consider run plays as real possibilities. And not just quarterback sneaks and trick run plays like quarterback draws.
3. A team must be able to get a first down with regularity by running the ball when it's third and short, or fourth and one.

IMO #3 is not the case with this team, and #2 is questionable. And, partly because of #3 and #2, #1 is not as powerful as it should be.

We have been spoiled because Rodgers is so good at covering up the weaknesses of the line. But unless they are solved, problems in #1-#3 are going to make his job more and more difficult. Maybe not against SF or Detroit. But if the team gets to the playoffs?
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Yes....for the most part, you need "balance".
But how many times in one particular game do you need to slam your head into a wall before you decide, "Hey....maybe this isn't working".?

We need a running game. That's a given. But in that game, it wasn't working even a little bit. Every run was a waste of a down.
Play to your strengths until the opposition proves they can stop you.

Doesn't that make sense?

And as far as i can see, our running game is just not working this year. So should you be stubborn, just to say "Look! We ran the ball!" so that people don't say your one dimensional?
Do what works for that game. If you CAN run, GREAT!
If you can't, do something else.
Or in the end, you will end up on the wrong end of the won-lost column.
You know.....just like we did.

Our passing game was affective to a degree because McCarthy did call on the run and Rodgers was able to play behind the center often enough to require the defense to defend the run.

I think the offense and Rodgers does very well with him under center and faking a handoff. Regardless of whether or not the run is working the defense has to respect it which allows the play action to work. This is about holding the LB's and making the DL maintain their gaps vs. allowing the LB's to cheat on the pass and allowing the linemen to all out push the pocket.

Now the best of both worlds is we get something positive out of the run game as well. This was a week where that didn't happen but while rushing the ball has not been prolific it usually accomplishes the mission of getting some positive yards and keeping the D honest. Afterall, we average about 100 yds a game.

I have resolved myself to the fact we, like most prolific passing teams, will not kick butt in the run game when we play stout four man fronts but it's going to be harder for Rodgers if we don't line up with him under center and either hand it off or go with a play action pass.

Almost everytime I see Rodgers under center and he pulls the ball back and throws it the protection is solid and something good happens. This only works because the defense must remain disciplined and true to their assigments. Otherwise they would ignore the possibility of the run altogether and just pour in on Rodgers regardless of how we are lined up.

Yes, it totally makes sense. When talking about this game and this game only, it completely makes sense.

I try to emphasise that we're talking about this game and this game only but people will still bring up other games.

OK, this game, and this game only (for the 3rd time now) - the run was a complete waste of a down. I showed in the play by play on two threads now that running wasted a down and passing worked. We had essentially 3 TD drives including the fumble in the end zone. They were pretty much all passes. When we ran, we had to punt.

Note that I'm talking about this game and this game only.
