I do agree, however. With the offensive cast we have...Rodgers, Driver, Jennings, Jackson (to some extent) if our head coach has some imagination and uses our weapons we still have a class A offense.

On defense the loss of Matthews hurts, but his injury is one that he will recover from. I don't expect him to be out very long. With Matthews still in the picture I would say that this team should easily make the playoffs. Get some guys healthy, Harris/Bigby, then with the experience that the backups are getting, we could easily make a run at the Super Bowl. Think about the competition in the NFC. Who can you say is honestly better on paper than the Packers?

This is why I expect the Packers in the Super Bowl.

I will not publicly state that anyone that thinks that injuries are no excuse is an idiot...

Let's call injuries a "plausible explanation for decreased performance" of a team as a whole, and those that cling to the concept that "injuries are no excuse" are merely Pavlovian dogs that happen to also be "logicically-challenged".

I think we weather this storm, finish 11-5, win the division, and lose in the NFC championship game because McCarthey went conservative.

Let's compare Barnett and Bishop - Bishop is definitely better thumping at the line of scrimmage, but what can't be overlooked is Barnett's superior range. It's Capers job to adjust the defense.

We still have a lot of talent, but I would encouraga a shakeup on the offensive line. Bench Clifton, let Bulaga play LT and Lang at right and run the fuckin ball. Tauscher and Clifton can sit there on the bench as backups if the young guys can't handle the job. I think they can.

I'm gonna +1 ya for that, but I personally want Colledge out of there also.
That brings me to the question of --- Do I want Tausch in there at RT and Lang at LG????

I think I might. I'm just not sure if Tausch is as done as I think he is.

I see I am in a loosing battle and I'm in the minority so I will rest my case.

Like I said, you loose Rodgers yeah, my expectations will change. And I was wrong about saying injuries are no excuse. If you have a whole team of backups out there, yeah, expectations change. But I don't think we have reached that point.

The team as of right now is capable of winning games.

I get the whole "injuries happen to everyone" thing and how you need to expect some guys to have to step up throughout the year and fill in for guys but it's a simple fact that any team who has half their starters as 2nd/3rd stringers is not going to be as good as a team with 1 or 2 backups playing here or there.

Anyone who can blithely ignore injures and expect the same results from a decimated team as from a team at full strength is an idiot, in my opinion.

There. I said it.

I agree. I don't mind the "Superbowl or Bust!" fans - everyone's got a right to their opinion, and wanting your favorite team in the big game is natural. But to the fans who constantly spout the "No excuse! Get it done!" mantra, I would ask: Could YOU get it done? Do YOU have a viable* plan to account for losing key starters in essentially every position on the field and ensure a Superbowl victory?

Most of the folks I respect were not predicting a Superbowl win this season, be it other fans or the few media folk who have a brain. I don't see how predictions made far too early by talking heads equate to some sort of promise or mandate for a Superbowl win.

Injuries aren't an excuse. They are, however, a reality. And the reality is that it's pretty damn tough to win in the NFL if your team is as beat up as the Packers are. That said, I do think they can keep the ship afloat and wouldn't be at all surprised to see them make the playoffs.

*this means it has to work - not "trade for Merriman and Lynch and Champ Bailey" crap.

Ideally, superbowl. At the least, a playoff victory. If we're knocked out by a better team and didn't beat ourselves with dumb penalties and huge special teams blunders, I would still consider it a successful season. Everyone wants to win and winning is what ultimately matters, but just because you're not the best doesn't mean that you can't be proud.

beast (19m) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (20m) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21m) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (4h) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (4h) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (4h) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (6h) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (6h) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (6h) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (9h) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (10h) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (17h) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (17h) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (18h) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (18h) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (18h) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (18h) : Game not over yet
beast (19h) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (19h) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (19h) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (19h) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (20h) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (20h) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (20h) : Oh snap!!!
Zero2Cool (21h) : Even Stevie Wonder can see that.
Zero2Cool (21h) : Nah, you see Lions OC leaving to be HC of Bears is directly related to Packers.
Mucky Tundra (21h) : ohhhhhhh Zero is in TROUBLE
packerfanoutwest (21h) : Zero, per your orders, check Bearshome, not packershome
Zero2Cool (23h) : Then he'll land with another team and flourish.

Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : what's so funny?
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Bears are finalizing a deal to hire Ben Johnson as their head coach. (via @tompelissero )
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : Looks like Lions OC Ben Johnson is going to be the Bears coach
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : TD but another failed 2 pt conversion!
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : Ravens still alive, but barely
Mucky Tundra (19-Jan) : Or not...BUT THAT CATCH BY NACUA
Mucky Tundra (19-Jan) : WE MAY HAVE BEEN PREMATURE KANATA
TheKanataThrilla (19-Jan) : Time to make dinner
TheKanataThrilla (19-Jan) : Ouch!!!! Dagger for the Eagles
Mucky Tundra (19-Jan) : DAGGER
TheKanataThrilla (19-Jan) : pass plays
TheKanataThrilla (19-Jan) : Seems some of their passes are too deep. Reminds me of MLF as well.
Mucky Tundra (19-Jan) : Oren Burks with a clutch pass break up...I will now light myself on fire
Mucky Tundra (19-Jan) : a run on 2nd down and 17 from McVay? So that's where MLF gets it from!
Mucky Tundra (19-Jan) : Do or die time for the Rams
TheKanataThrilla (19-Jan) : Kicking field goals are impressive
Mucky Tundra (19-Jan) : Oh that might be a backbreaker
Mucky Tundra (19-Jan) : That's what I thought too, just wasn't sure
TheKanataThrilla (19-Jan) : Kicking doesn't make much sense
