try watching the SF game again, Johnson was blasting people out of the way and Grant had one of his best days since 07' and this was on a 9ers D that is pretty good vs the run.

21 carries 129 YDS 6.1 avg

if Grant can get back up into the 5+ YPC range, this Offense goes to a whole new level.

PA fakes become that much more of a weapon for Rodgers.

Donald Lee - Him being cut would be a pure salaray dump, and the Packers have paid a premium for depth in the past. He's currently due to make $2 million this season, which is not THAT excessive in base salary. Nothing I've seen out of Havner or Quarless makes me feel Lee is expendable at least from a talent standpoint. Havner is probably the oddman out here. He was a nice story making the roster last year, but with his off the field issues (albeit minor), his developmental third TE spot is probably going to go to the Quarless this year.

Poppinga - Zombo, Obiozer, etc. are going to have to show a lot at OLB for him to get cut imo. He's a good special teams player and locker room veteran even if he's been rather mediocre as a pass rusher. Popps is scheduled to make $2.25 million total this season. A bit of money for a reserve, but again, nothing to excessive like Lee.

Bush - He's like a convenient store pocket knife that is being sold for a quality one. He can do a lot of things on paper, but not any one thing particularly well. If he sees the field again as anything more than a special teams gunner, the secondary is going to be in trouble if they face elite QBs like last year. I personally hope the Packers finally do part ways with him by the end of camp. I'd rather give guys like Bell and Martin more reps.

Barbre - We carried 9 offensive linemen into the regular season after training camp last year and that did not include Tauscher who was not on the team at the time. Taucher, Clifton, Sitton, Bulaga, and Wells are probably locks to make the team. Colledge, Spitz, and Lang are definitely in the "likely to make it" category. That leaves guys like Newhouse, Barbre, Giacomini, Dietrich-Smith, etc. all squarely on the roster bubble fighting for one or maybe two spots on the final roster. Barbre is probably the most likely to be on the outside looking in at the end of camp.

3 FBs - Quite a conundrum. Ideally I think you'd like to trade either Hall or Kuhn for a late round draft pick and keep Quinn and the other non-traded FB if Quinn can show more during camp this year. Quinn would be eligible for the practice squad this year, but frankly, I'd be surprised if he lasted the entire year there even if he made it through waivers at all during the final cutdown. Hall is entering the final year of his rookie deal. Kuhn is entering year 5 and was a RFA this off-season. I'd say keep Johnson for one more year, keep Kuhn, and trade Hall if you can find a willing partner. Hall has been the most injury prone of the trio, and his skills are basically interchangeable with Kuhn's nowadays.

I'm a little surprised to see so many people say Havner hasn't show much, when all the guy does is make plays and score touchdowns in his very limited opportunities.... Someone else said 7 rec 4 TDs? Thats simply insane. He certainly has a great goal-line presence if nothing else.

Havner has a good chance to stick because he plays 2 positions. If he improves(he's young) and plays well on ST I would think he stays.
Why is Jerry Kramer not in the Hall of Fame?

Kuhn is older than Hall.
Kuhn has one more year in the NFL so his minimum salary is higher.
If you think they are equal, Hall's lower price tag might be the difference maker.

I think Hall is a better receiver.
He was also a Thompson draft pick.

At LB you have Hawk, Barnett, Matthews, Chillar, Poppinga, Bishop, and Jones likely to be on the game day roster.

Add one on the 53 roster and one on the practice squad. I do not see Poppinga getting cut unless somebody like Obiozor really shows something.

O-line? See my comments in that thread.

Hall, Kuhn and Johnson were all brought in by Thompson.

Hall and Johnson picks.
Kuhn waivers.

I don't know why some continue to say 'Thompson pick' as if that holds any ground, but tickle your pickle if ya must.

I say if we need to pick between Hall and Kuhn, I would pick Kuhn. He is our best running fullback. We usually hand it off to him on short yardage plays.

I tend to agree. Afterall Deitrich- Smith was kept last season rather than a 5th round pick. I mentioned it at the end for exactly the reason you mentioned.

It is close and little things make the difference. Pay and age (longevity) are larger factors. Remember last season Kuhn tried the restricted free agent market and found no takers.

All 3 FB's will be working to make the team. I do not think there are favorites yet.

Pop on the game against San Francisco. Quinn Johnson made some outstanding lead blocks for Ryan Grant. During that game, I saw some of the best blocking by a Green Bay FB since William Henderson IMO.

Also, he really is just a one dimensional player. He's a lead blocker. That's kind of it. He's not going to stand out unless the pads are on and there is hitting.

There is much more to special teams play than racking up tackles. Are you disciplined? Are you in the right position? Bush is all those things.

Jarrett Bush is disciplined? He has more penalties on special teams than any other Packers special teamer in over 20 years.

dfosterf (16-Apr) : Nobody coming up with a keep, but at x amount
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Trade, cut or keep
dfosterf (16-Apr) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (16-Apr) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (16-Apr) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Jalen Ramsey wants to be traded. He's never happy is he?

dfosterf (14-Apr) : Maybe send a crew of Angels to the Packers draft room on draft day.
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I am the Angel that gets visited.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Visiting Angels has a pretty good reputation
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : what
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : WINNING IT, not someone else losing it. The best victory though was re-uniting with his wife
