Guess I don't see the urgency for a veteran at TE as much as other places along the roster.. but interesting.

Oh and if Garrett Wolfe becomes available.. what an interesting addition to some roster he might make... another Bear worth watching is Manning Jr. if they turn him loose.. would he shore up the depth at CB.

Dont be alarmed or surprised that Lions first-round pick Gosder Cherilus has taken snaps at both OT spots. If anything, it shows the team is willing to give extra reps and looks to the rookie, who should overtake George Foster for the starting ORT spot. Cherilus perhaps has OLT starting potential down the line, but hes slated for the right side as a rookie, barring a major injury to Jeff Backus.

Did the Niners and head coach Mike Nolan go out of their way to make Packers QB Aaron Rodgers look bad in their recent preseason encounter because they had passed over Rodgers in the draft three years ago in favor of Alex Smith? They were in an all-out blitz mode big-time, a longtime Packers insider said of the Niners amped-up defense in the second preseason game, which sacked Rodgers four times in the first half. Id like to think pettiness doesnt exist at the pro level, but theres no doubt it does.

Our Packers sources tell us its quite possible the team could go out of its way to pick up a veteran tight end off the waiver wire, with rookie Jermichael Finley looking like a major work in progress and third-year pro Tory Humphrey continuing to be a major injury risk behind starting TE Donald Lee.

Vikings TE Garrett Mills bothersome right ankle has kept him off the field and could cost him a roster spot. His lack of play this preseason has hurt his cause, despite the coaching staffs interest in his ability. If Mills is cut, dont be surprised if the team that drafted him the Patriots take a hard look.

Our Bears sources were quick to mention after the teams preseason loss to the Niners that second-year RB Garrett Wolfe might have very well put himself on the bubble following his fumbled kickoff return that set up a Niners TD in that game. The fact that newcomer Kevin Jones looked impressive in his first preseason action vs. the Niners certainly doesnt help Wolfes cause.

Bears sources who have been dealing with starting LBs Brian Urlacher and Lance Briggs on a regular basis report that the two players relationships with the local media have made a 360-degree turn for the better this season. On the field, meanwhile, although Urlacher has looked pretty sharp most of the time, were told Briggs has been uncharacteristically sloppy and slow to reach his normal All-Pro form.

I thought I heard where the Bears already put Manning on the road. I think that happened earlier this week.

Just went back and checked. He was cut August 26th.

I would like to see the double tightend set from the packers more often and picking up a veteran te could really open up the old playbook again.

Bears release veteran cornerback Ricky Manning Jr.
By Larry Mayer

LAKE FOREST, Ill. The Bears on Tuesday terminated the contract of vested veteran cornerback Ricky Manning, Jr.

Cornerback Ricky Manning Jr. had five interceptions in two years with the Bears.
Manning appeared in 31 games with 11 starts in two seasons after signing with the Bears as a restricted free agent in 2006. He recorded 106 tackles, three sacks, five interceptions, six passes defensed, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and 13 special-teams tackles.

Manning was selected by the Carolina Panthers in the third round of the 2003 draft. In 79 career NFL contests, he has registered 292 tackles and 14 interceptions, returning two for touchdowns.

Stepping up: Rashied Davis is emerging as one of the Bears pass catchers. After three preseason games, the former Arena Football League star is tied for the team lead with five receptions and two touchdowns and tops all wide receivers with 69 yards.

He runs hard every route, said quarterback Kyle Orton. He comes off the ball and really gives defensive backs trouble. Whether hes running a short route, a long route, inside, outside, he really runs his routes well and hes a smart football player.

Looking ahead: Orton didnt see the Colts lose to the Bills Sunday night, but that doesnt mean that he isnt familiar with Indianapolis, the Bears Week 1 opponent.

Ive been watching them for weeks now, Orton said. Well be ready to go and theyll be ready to go. Theyve got a good defense. They dont do anything fancy. Theyre in the right spot at the right time.

After opening the season Sept. 7 in Indianapolis on Sunday Night Football, the Bears will travel to Carolina to face the Panthers seven days later.

Weve got a couple tough games to start off on the road this season, so we need to get off to a fast start and there would be nothing better than to start off with a win down there in Indy, Orton said. Were going to have to go down there and play well and execute our offense. If we do, we have a good chance.

On the shelf: Long-snapper Patrick Mannelly (neck) and defensive end Mark Anderson (thumb) will not play in Thursday nights preseason finale against the Browns in Cleveland.

Zero2Cool (3h) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (3h) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (5h) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (6h) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job
dfosterf (7h) : Martha- C'est mon boulot! 😁
Zero2Cool (7h) : Thank you
wpr (7h) : Z, glad you are feeling better.
wpr (7h) : My son and D-I-L work for UM. It's a way to pick on them.
Zero2Cool (7h) : Thank you. I rarely get sick, and even more rarely sick to the point I can't work.
wpr (7h) : Beast- back to yesterday, I CAN say OSU your have been Michigan IF the odds of making the playoffs were more urgent.
dfosterf (7h) : Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
Zero2Cool (8h) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.
Zero2Cool (8h) : It is a big deal. This host is having issues. It's frustrating.
Martha Careful (8h) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (8h) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (8h) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Oh snap!!!
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Even Stevie Wonder can see that.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Nah, you see Lions OC leaving to be HC of Bears is directly related to Packers.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ohhhhhhh Zero is in TROUBLE
packerfanoutwest (21-Jan) : Zero, per your orders, check Bearshome, not packershome
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Then he'll land with another team and flourish.
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Ben going to Bears. He'll be out in 3 years.
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : what's so funny?
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Bears are finalizing a deal to hire Ben Johnson as their head coach. (via @tompelissero )
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : Looks like Lions OC Ben Johnson is going to be the Bears coach
