Why do most think Colledge is going to lose his starting spot?

I don't think he's going anywhere

Both of you are mistaken and incorrect. Let's use what really happened...

When Sitton was drafted in 2008, he came in he beat out Spitz for the starting RG spot his rookie year during the preseason, the coaches then moved Spitz to LG where Spitz beat out College... then Sitton got injured before the first game and they moved Spitz back to RG and Colledge back to LG.

That same season (2008) Colledge had his break out year and played better than any of the other guy on the OL. Which is the reason come 2009 Wells, Spitz and Sitton were the ones battling for position in the preseason and not Colledge. Colledge didn't play well in 2009, because he didn't have to compete for it... Colledge does better when he's not locked in and has to compete for it, so Mike McCarthy telling him he has to compete for his job is the best thing Mike McCarthy could of done for him... also who know if Spitz will be 100% after a back injury, lets hope so.

Thanks for the history lesson, beast. I had forgotten the details of how that all played out. I think the most important point is that Spitz has been considered worthy of a starting position on the OL for each of the last four seasons, while Colledge has been shaky at times. And the one time they competed head-to-head, Spitz beat him out. So my money is on Spitz if he stays healthy.

The problem with Colledge is inconsistency and that will be the thing the coaches will be most concerned about with him.

The guy plays well at times but like in the Arizona game, at a crucial time, he gets beat on the inside and ends up with the holding call that eventually got them beat.

I think Wells has proven himself and has the communication down that really started the OL comeback along with getting healthy. I think that's good because it free's up Spitz to move over and he will make fewer mistakes than Colledge IMO.

I could see Colledge starting out there but looking over his shoulder at Spitz as he gets healthy. I really don't see them pushing Spitz early and letting him come along and when Colledge pulls his crap they install Spitz.

This is the deepest the OL has been in a long time. Back when they were one of the best OL's you had to hold your breath because there was nobody behind those guys.

He's very inconsistency... at times he's the worse at other times he's the best... but when Mike McCarthy said he's going to have to compete for his job that told him he's going to have to battle for his position... and Colledge has always come out very strong when he has had to battle for a starting spot...

Barbre was rumorly suppose to take his position but he battled back and improved, Spitz took his spot he battled back and showed as the best OL that year....

When someone pushes him he gets better than them... and Mike McCarthy pushed him when he said he's going to have to battle for his spot with Spitz...

I think he'll be the best he's been because of that...

I think Wells has proven himself and has the communication down that really started the OL comeback along with getting healthy.

I think the OL comeback had more with health with Tausher, Clifton and Colledge coming back and getting healthy... but Wells did look more aggressive in the run game after he got benched and came back... I think both Wells and Colledge need to be pushed and maybe Clifton as Clifton sometimes doesn't seem to try to run block at times...

Baluga, Newhouse, Wells, Sitton, Lang

Next year and beyond, with Wells' replacement drafted next season.

I have no clue how this year's line will shake out, but what I do know is that there are going to be players pissed about playing time, and with good reason. Clifton and Tauscher were signed to very good deals in comparison to their age and they will not be riding pine.

It appears Uncle Ted has finally given the Oline it's due attention, but then Baluga fell into his lap didn't he?

And one more thing, any game this season that we have a comfortable lead in the second half; Clifton, Taush, and Colledge need to be yanked to give the young guys PT.

As long as they yank Rodgers with them. The thing is with injuries we may see some in there before they are really ready. I am hoping Clifton and Tauscher can get through the first half of the season. At least by then these other guys will be a little more ready to go.

I don't know when but it's highly unlikely this OL goes through the season without one or two going down somewhere along the way.

Spitz's back remains a question mark. I'd like to not have to count on him this year, so he can really heal and strengthen his back. So I'll go with -Cliffy, Colledge, Wells, Sitton and Tausch. Colledge seems to play better when he consentrates on one postion.

For the future I'll go with - Bulaga, Newhouse, Spitz or ? , Sitton, Lang. Sorta like Dakota.

Also agree with Dakota the we need to put teams away to get young players playing time - to see if they can really play, get experience, rest the starters and lower the injury risk to the starters(ecspecially Cliffy and Tausch), .

beast (24-Dec) : Sounds like no serious injuries from the Saints game and Jacobs and Watson should play in the Vikings game
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : both games Watson missed, Packers won
Martha Careful (24-Dec) : I hope all of you have a Merry Christmas!
Mucky Tundra (24-Dec) : Oh I know about Jacobs, I just couldn't pass up an opportunity to mimic Zero lol
buckeyepackfan (24-Dec) : Jacobs was just sat down, Watson re-injured that knee that kept him out 1 game earlier
buckeyepackfan (24-Dec) : I needed .14 that's. .14 points for the whole 4th quarter to win and go to the SB. Lol
Mucky Tundra (24-Dec) : Jacobs gonna be OK???
Zero2Cool (24-Dec) : Watson gonna be OK???
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : Inactives tonight for the Pack: Alexander- knee Bullard - ankle Williams - quad Walker -ankle Monk Heath
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : No Jaire, but hopefully the front 7 destroys the line of scrimmage & forces Rattler into a few passes to McKinney.
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : minny could be #1 seed and the Lions #5 seed
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : We'd have same Division and Conference records. Strength of schedule we edge them
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I just checked. What tie breaker?
bboystyle (23-Dec) : yes its possible but unlikely. If we do get the 5th, we face the NFCS winner
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Ahh, ok.
bboystyle (23-Dec) : yes due to tie breaker
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I mean, unlikely, yes, but mathematically, 5th is possible by what I'm reading.
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : If Vikings lose out, Packers win out, Packers get 5th, right?
bboystyle (23-Dec) : Minny isnt going to lose out so 5th seed is out of the equation. We are playing for the 6th or 7th seed which makes no difference
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : beast, the ad revenue goes to the broadcast company but they gotta pay to air the game on their channel/network
beast (23-Dec) : If we win tonight the game is still relative in terms of 5th, 6th or 7th seed... win and it's 5th or 6th, lose and it's 6th or 7th
beast (23-Dec) : Mucky, I thought the ad revenue went to the broadcasting companies or the NFL, at least not directly
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I think the revenue share is moot, isn't it? That's the CBA an Salary Cap handling that.
bboystyle (23-Dec) : i mean game becomes irrelevant if we win tonight. Just a game where we are trying to play spoilers to Vikings chance at the #1 seed
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : beast, I would guess ad revenue from more eyes watching tv
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I would think it would hurt the home team because people would have to cancel last minute maybe? i dunno
beast (23-Dec) : I agree that it's BS for fans planning on going to the game. But how does it bring in more money? I'm guessing indirectly?
packerfanoutwest (23-Dec) : bs on flexing the game....they do it for the $$league$$, not the hometown fans
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I see what you did there Mucky
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : dammit. 3:25pm
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Packers Vikings flexed to 3:35pm
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : Upon receiving the news about Luke Musgrave, I immediately fell to the ground
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : Yeah baby!
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : LUKE MUSGRAVE PLAYING TONIGHT~!~~~~WOWHOAAOHAOAA yah
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I wanna kill new QB's ... blitz the crap out of them.
beast (23-Dec) : Barry seemed to get too conservative against new QBs, Hafley doesn't have that issue
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : However, we seem to struggle vs new QB's
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Should be moot point, cuz Packers should win tonight.
packerfanoutwest (23-Dec) : ok I stand corrected
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Ok, yes, you are right. I see that now how they get 7th
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : 5th - Packers win out, Vikings lose out. Maybe?
beast (23-Dec) : Saying no to the 6th lock.
beast (23-Dec) : No, with the Commanders beating the Eagles, Packers could have a good chance of 6th or 7th unless the win out
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I think if Packers win, they are locked 6th with chance for 5th.
beast (23-Dec) : But it doesn't matter, as the Packers win surely win one of their remaining games
beast (23-Dec) : This is not complex, just someone doesn't want to believe reality
