One could do worse than CO as far as relocating.. and to be honest, in the landscape of the economy it is hard to walk away from stability.

However.. blending in family issues are the difficult part.. hence for the most part why I have told 'headhunters' to stop calling.. don't want to deal with it.. but that is starting over.. not continuing through.

The surrounding area is pretty nice. Greeley, Fort Collins and Loveland are appealing areas. And I'm learning the schooling is top notch as well.

Yes.. I lived in Denver area.. we stayed out towards Evergreen on about a 2 month assignment before departing for Corpus.. this was the late 90's.. other than having to deal with the Bronco nonsense.. I loved it.

It is on the short list of cities I could live in.

Pikes Peak is a must see and explore..

FWIW, I'd separate the decision into two questions:

1. The family question. I don't how to answer that one, as I've never been in the "dad" position. (I have had a few students from Colorado, and they've been uniformly well prepared by their schools.)

2. The corporate culture question. You speak of being taken over a year ago and the new company wanting things centralized. My guiding question would be, "has the general culture changed for the better or worse in that year?" If it's better, then I'd recommend relocating (assuming you're satisfied on question #1, of course).

I wouldn't let the "never been out of Wisconsin' play a big role. You're young enough, and have skills, you aren't going to be "stuck" in Colorado if you find you hate it.

If it's not, and especially if its worse, then I'd say don't. IMO you've got a marketable skill set that doesn't require you to uproot your family just because the company is going in another direction.

IMO, I'd answer #2 first. If 2 says "relocate," then I'd sit down with the kids for an extended conversation. Explain why you think it makes sense career-wise, family-wise, life-wise, for you, for kids, for universe. Ask what they think of the idea, what they like about it (as well, of course, what they don't.) Tell them this is the way you're leaning, but still haven't decided 100%. Etc. One of those long family roundtable thingies.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

On Monday they took me to Horsetooth? or something like that in Stout, CO... truly amazing. I was about 15 yards from a deer! I took a couple pics but I was kind of preparing to run like hell if it decided not to be friendly, lol.

When speaking with co-workers about the possibility in relocating, I spouted off things that I would 'need' to make it worth my while. I set a number for salary, contract and I'd need to like the city. The offer they made me was dead on the bloated number I set ... they'll give me a contract and the area is ... great. Plus other incentives. I'll have to get NFL Sunday Ticket, but I'll survive.

As per the Corporate structure ... my boss started the meeting off with a few words then apologized for the situation i was put in. I feel liked and appreciated there ... although it's only been a couple days. It's been really good. I like it and think I can make it work.

The discussion with Keiana is going to be the key, almost as much as convincing her mother that her coming with me to CO is the best thing for her.

And where would you be relocating to?

"Rockmolder" wrote:

Greeley, CO about and hour from Denver, CO.

Yeah, that's quite a move. I can see your problem with the kids there. Of course it's hard to give any advice on this alone, but I'll have to warn you that I'm leaving if I wake up in a couple of weeks to see the site blue, orange and renamed BroncosHome.com.

Lol.

Certainly a LOT better than this Green and yellow tint.. =)

Seriously.. Sounds like it's almost a good move. Here's to hoping your girl and her mother will be keen on the situation as well.

errr you sound as if you have never seen a deer in wisconsin ... I lived in SE wisconsin (kenosha/bristol area) for many years and there was always deer around ... on the way back to rockford I drove over one (someone else 1 minute earlier hit it first and I didnt see it - probably good because I had a small sports car and I would of been eating deer if not) (was going to say another deer spent sometime in a big dollar store in rockford crashing around before busting through the window and running down the road).

tough making a decision like that zero; especially when you have family involved ... Im sure you know inside what would be the best decision to make.

I got a good impression of the denver/boulder area when I was there - a bit hippyish (boulder) and they have that whole mountain climbing/skiing thing going but it seems nice enough (eg newer type of buildings etc then one would see in wisconsin).
btw I think the colorado people are a bit slow (no offense to you natives here) eg the lack of oxygen there ... luckily you have wisconsin blood in you 😉

If this opportunity increases your salary and provides significant job security, I think you could convince a judge that relocating your daughter with you and giving you primary custody would be in her best interests. I'm assuming here that the mother does not make much money, nor does she have such job security.

It's not that I haven't seen a deer before, it was that the deer was about 15-20feet (not yards) away from me. I haven't been that close to one outside of a car previously. I thought it was neat.

It's definitely an increase in salary and a bonus for moving too. And contract for two years.

I'll know more about everything after this weekend. I arrive back in Green Bay tonight at about 10:30 pm.
