Even a casual glance at Favre's performances in the playoffs the past decade and a half could lead one to the reasoned conclusion that the Packers could conceivably have won more titles had it not been for the repeated meltdowns of their quarterback at the most inopportune times.

Favre is probably the third best regular season quarterback of all time, after Manning and Marino. A great postseason quarterback he is not and never has been. Every time I re-watch the Super Bowl XXXI, it becomes more obvious to me that the Packers won that night not because of Favre's play but because Holmgren kept Favre firmly leashed.

Redsox just made a valid point that I hope all anti Rodgers people..

Its a TEAM game and a defense can be blamed for a loss but never Brett/Rodgers

I like how you glided right over the fact that they sacked McNabb 8 times in that game and our running game had over 200 yards. Yes, I watched that game and yes, I watched the Atlanta game too, And I have watched the Rams game repeatedly. If it will make you feel better, I'll watch the other two games a few times and come back with analysis of them.

But this is way off topic. We're supposed to be talking Rodgers here.

Anyway.... I think Rodgers is great.

Aaron is a pretty good QB. Very accurate, beautiful deep ball and makes good decisions.... only flaw I see with him is his hesitation in the pocket with holding the ball longer than he needs to. That no longer seems to be an issue, from the three preseason games I saw.

So, the reality of Aaron Rodgers ... is?

You can pull up offensive/defensive/special teams/water boy stats to prove anything you want, but the last 3 years, Brett's last pass of the year was a pick, same is true of the Philly 4th 26 game, might as well have been true in the St. Louis game.

Rodgers is a statistical stud, which is great, but more importantly, in spite of the fumble vs. AZ, has started to demonstrate that he can win a game, and produce under pressure (best 3rd down rating last year)...We can argue about how good/bad a team was, who carried who, etc. and they're all relevant arguments, but one of the key variables is what do you do when your team needs you to produce - 2min drill, end of game, etc. Aaron Rodgers has a lot to prove yet, but seems to demonstrate the capacity to be a winner in this respect.

Let's all remember the finger attached to a 250+ pound professional athlete pulling down on Rodger's face mask before we blame him in the fumble at the end of last years game in AZ. Yeah, it would have been nice if he had held on to the ball. It also would have been nice if the ref standing RIGHT THERE would have called the foul.

I agree with evad, above, as I am wont to do: The AZ game, particularly the second half, is the defining game of Rodgers career thus far (and of this team's offense in general) EVEN THOUGH it ended in a loss. Do I want to see him make a deep run in the playoffs? Yes. Would that establish him once and for all as an elite QB? Yes. I don't believe it takes a Super Bowl win to make a QB elite (see Dan Marino). I do think two SB wins would automatically make Rodgers a greater Packer than Favre, if not a greater player.

Anyway, whether he's greater, or elite, or the best, or really sooperdoopergood... I don't really care. I'm thrilled to have him. I'd rather have him than Romo or Rivers, Cutler or McNabb. He gives us the ability to win, something so many teams transitioning from a legendary QB could not say through the late 90s and the 00s.
