Plenty of people have gone the

LT Clifton
LG Colledge
C Wells
RG Sitton
RT Tauscher

route and based off how that group finished the last 7 games last season (9 sacks and a 4.1 ypa rushing) I'd have to agree. For me the wildcard as the season progresses is Colledge and whether Newhouse or Lang make more sense there. I'm still not sold on Lang being our RT. I really like Lang's run blocking and could be force in the future with Bulaga next to him there.

In regards to Ted Thompson addressing the OLine through the draft. Picking OLineman in the 1st or 2nd round I don't feel is any indicator that a GM does a better job addressing the OLine. The number of picks was a little eye-opening, so I start to wonder if the scouting is just not that good on those players. Taking a quick gander at some teams that I feel have good OLines (plus the Bears for laughs). The following is the draft round for the projected(debatable) starting lines for those teams from a couple different fantasy sites.

		LT	LG	C	RG	RT
Saints 4	5	5	4	2
Titan 2	4	7	5	4
Ravens 1	1	6	3	5
Panther 1	3	2	7	1
Packers 2	2	7	4	7
Queens 1	1	6	u/d	2
Bears 1	4	3	4	5

This doesn't take in account if the player was drafted by that team or traded, but I can't argue trying to build an offesive line from the middle of the draft. Looking at the Saints and Titans it really shows that if you get the right set of guys for a system, it can work really well whether they are drafted early or late. Just my 2 cents.

IMO Ted Thompson has done a very good job of drafting. I agree with his BPA philosiphy. That doesn't mean you split hairs and draft, as and example, Hughes over Bulaga, if Hughes is rated .1 over Bulaga. If he had chosen to draft an O lineman high in the past, who would you give up - Rodgers, Matthews, Hawk, Raji ...

I got it ... Harrell ! LOL

Good point Tezzy, and thanks for the interesting stats. Ted's strategy is not uncommon. There is a school of thought that says you should use most of your high picks on the playmaking positions, because O-linemen who are drafted low can be coached up if they have the physical tools. I've always been in general agreement with this school of thought.

After six drafts, Ted's track record is not good, as three of the five starters (Clifton, Tauscher, and Wells) are still holdovers from the previous regime. So far Josh Sitton appears to be Ted's one and only hit, while Colledge and Spitz are average at best. If Lang and Bulaga pan out, though, Ted's O-line intelligence will take a big leap forward. This will be very interesting to watch.

If we are honest, Ted for the most part has done a disservice to his coaches in the o-line talent he has given them. Recall Will Whiticker, Guard, selected seventh round and forced to start in his first year because Ted failed to bring in adequate bodies to replace Mike Whale.

If we are being honest I think your wrong...

G/C Junius Coston
G Will Whitticker
G/C Tony Palmer (waivers)
G Daryn Colledge
G/C Jason Spitz
G Tony Moll
G Allen Barbre
G Josh Sitton
G/T T.J. Lang
G Marshall Newhouse

(I didn't list the OTs)

That's a lot of bodies he from in for mainly just the 2 OG positions... their is just only so many draft picks to go around...

Thompson has used two draft picks on OL players every year other than '06 and '07. '06 he used 3 picks on an OL and '07 he used 1 pick on an OL.

He has used 12 of the teams 58 (over 20.6%) draft picks over the last 6 years on OL.

The problem hasn't been with Ted. The problem is with Mike requestiong "smaller, quicker" linemen for the idiotic zBS.
Since Ted has been able to go after bigger, stronger guys, like Sitton, Lang, Bulaga and Newhouse, he's had much better results.

No doubt, I wouldn't give a squirt of piss for that lineup to protect me. Left Tackle has one leg, LG and Center are computer Geek English correcting sychopants. I don't even know who Matt and Jim are but they ain't overcoming the 3 stooges' limitations. I think you'd have better odds of not getting injured being in a barn full of axes and sythes during a tornado than trusting that O-line. 🙂
