Lol Wade

Honestly, Uncle Ted is so unpredictable in certain elements of his remit that I really have no incline of a clue what he's going to do.

Okay. Time to...

:horse: :horse: :horse:

OL who should be told they have a starting spot: Sitton.

OL who should be told they can compete for a starting spot/backup spot: Every other OL on the 2009 roster.

OL on end-of-2009 roster who should be told they have a real good chance of starting: Wells. Maybe Tauscher.

Draft strategy: OL early. OL middle rounds. OL late rounds. OL OL OL.

Free agency/trades: OL OL OL OL. Be willing to over pay and take chances.

5 out of 22 starting positions are on the OL. Well more than 5/22, well more than 18 people, should be on the opening roster for training camp. And (assuming there are no FA/trade moves for obvious kiss-ass starter types), only one of the starting positions should be set.

There is nothing more important than getting a kick-ass OL. Nothing.

N O T H I N G ! ! !

dfosterf, while I don't disagree, I do see a couple problems (not that I'm fool enough to think they'll sway your opinion, of course):

Where I absolutely agree with you is regarding Clifton and Tauscher - they MUST be resigned, if only to provide a segue into the new era.

But.

I think that, IF the Saints have to part ways with anyone, it'll be Bushrod, and I'm not all that sure he's much of an improvement (I know, OVER WHAT - better'n Cliffy, probably, I'll agree with that). I don't think they're dumb enough to let Brown get away.

I'm all for stocking up on the line, and especially at tackle. But I do think there's better value (and possibly just plain better talent) later on, and I'd hate to see them reach for a guy like Brown just because he's there. He is, as you've said, light in the pants. I also think there's a significant gap in the safety position - as in there's nothing worth anything after Bigby, and he shouldn't be playing every down as it is.

I would take Jamaal Brown in a heartbeat, and I'll even grant that Bushrod would be an improvement, albeit a slight one. And I do think they should get 1-2 prospects in the draft (I'll name Carimi, though I realize I'm in a minority). But at some point I think you can go overkill (though I do know that's exactly your intent).

Oh yes...and overkill IS the idea, 39.

I get a little worked up, so you gotta take some of this with a grain of salt.

As to Bushrod, I am hoping that the Saints see him as a long term solution, see an opportunity to perhaps get a premier DE in Kampy while saddled with 29 contract expirations, coupled with Brown's injury and the aforementioned Bushrod "as the future." This is all a HUGE reach in the hope department, and Bushrod would be my plan B, which is also a huge reach, but I definitely view him as better than Penn, whose name does get "bandied about" as well.

I recognize our other needs. For me, it is priorities, and we have not done as good a job at that as I would have liked, and we have had some serious failures as a result.

Here are the very simple priorities...do these two things and you are 99% assured of success in this league.

Make your quarterback comfortable and the other team's quarterback uncomfortable.

Period.

People are discounting how good Lang is at already.. that is fine.. I rest on what I have seen out of the kid to date.. and think he might not be a franchise left tackle.. but he could man the position just fine.

Must have been some sort of mistake, lol

Not a big Dartmouth fan?

Sorry to hear that, what with you paying for me to go there, lol

I was selected to go the Naval Academy (via Bainbridge prep school) out of bootcamp. I was dq'd from that because they found out I wore glasses, just as I was getting ready to go. No waivers. They had not been issued to me (yet) when initially selected...10 buck (retail) black plastic rimmed glasses issued one or two days later and I'd be a friggin' (shudders) engineer, lol.

(Marines were very picky about the qualifications, very few slots thing)

4 years later a very good man that also happened to be my OIC (officer in charge) noted that selection in my SRB (service record book), noted a slot available in what was called "Navy V / Bootstrap mod. program" Bottom line, he put me in for it, I got it, attended Dartmouth not only for free, but got my E-6 pay, commuted rations, housing allowance, travel allowances, per diem...you name it.

Marine Corps part of the Naval Service? You Betcha, buddy! I was the token grunt that the NAVY got to pay for out of THEIR budget (8 sailors also, slacker Navy Lieutenant JG in Groton was my OIC)

I lived almost as good as my classmates, and if you know anything about that place, that's sayin' somethin', financially...Your tax dollars at work, my friend, and it was not cheap. I honed my opinionated prick skills there, but to be honest, I was already pretty good at those prior to my arrival, lol

Didn't know you were an Ivy, too.

I have nothing against Dartmouth (or other Ivies) per se.

Well, okay, maybe a bit of lingering envy. (Harvard Law rejected my app way back when in less than two weeks. 🙂 )

My biggest problem with way most people talk about Ivies is that they assume that students get "better attention" at them. You get exposure, sort of, to the top publishers more often. Maybe (though the very best tend to be surprisingly inaccessible to most). And you get a better network to plug into.

If I had kids -- rofl --- and the dough -- double rofl -- and I was convinced they had the motivation/discipline/self-starter attitude, I'd push them to a snob school more than likely...but only for the network.

(Assuming I'd push them to college at all. Every day I think college makes less and less sense unless the kid has done something else first.)

Oh, it doesnt bother me that you were living well in Ivy-land on taxpayer money. I'm betting the money better spent than any ten congresscritter salaries.

There is some good news in the "have enough dough" category.

Even while laying off staff, Dartmouth joined some of the other ivies (this year? Last year?) in the "freebie giveaway" program.

Your family has a combined income under 75k?

If the kid can get in....

Free.
