There is something oddly hypnotic to watching all the flagellated horses strewn about this thread.

Wade and I ( Pack93z also, when he is not busy obsessing on LB's) are almost as passionate about the OL as you are about small breasted females, which I happen to concur on that as well, lol

WPR Wayne probably has the whole thing just about right, but I'm not admitting that until he's cool with helping pay for them. (TOTALLY kiddin', Wayne)

I'm not going to get involved with the great breast debate -- too paranoid about my job to enter certain conversations.

I will only say that there are things more important than the OL.

Just not for the Green Bay Packers. 😉

Something that should make everyone a little nervous.

Eugene Amano, 25 friggin' million, 5 years. Like 12 mil this year or something.

Edit-his friggin' contract details

Look at this....

You gotta scroll down to find his name---

Profootball focus- Guards

Like I said, we are going to be PISSED at what these guys get when we go to re-sign them, and I saw it coming, which is why I repeatedly defend those GD ticket prices when it seems so weird to do so, along with flipping out every time one of these guys gets his contract/payday/pro-bowl selection, etc.

Friggin' Colledge and his contract are going to cause me to have an embolism, I swear...I can almost see it.

See. It's another reason to overpay for *other* OL in free agency. (as opposed to relying on the never-ending "improvement' of Colledge.) Maintaining Foster's health.

My guess right now would be Lang - Spitz - Wells - Sitton - Tauscher to open this season. Even if we do have a 1st rounder on our roster.

Well, Rock...

If we go with your projected starting o-line I want to take a QB in the first round 'cause this one is a dead man walking.

imo lol

"Rockmolder" wrote:

You think that it'd be that bad?

I don't know who else we're going with. Bulaga would be a tackle who we could slide in immediatly, but he's shooting up the rankings, for some reason. It looks more and more unlikely that we're taking him.

Charles Brown would be in our range, most likely, but he's playing around 280 right now and isn't the strongest OT in the draft. He'll be on his ass every time that Allen tries a bull rush. He'll be good, but not right now.

I'm just wondering, what do you think? I can't see Clifton coming back. He should retire if you ask me. He's destroying his body. He'll be unable to walk when he hits 45 if he keeps this up. You can't build on him, anyway, if he's back. He'll be out as often as he's playing.

That leaves us with no one but Lang at LT, really. Tauscher is still a great RT. I'm just going with the interior line that looks the most propable to start right now.

"dfosterf" wrote:

I don't want Brown, but am afraid that he is the exact kind of player we will in fact draft. I hate the SOB already. I HATE light in the pants players. My HOPE for Lang, who WEIGHS 307, not 316, according to HIM, is that he is hitting the weight room HARD this off-season. My 1st choice for Lang would be RT, second choice LG, and no way in hell has he shown that he can play LT.

I want an FA LT. Like I said, with the Saints holding 2 good ones, imo, coupled with the final 8 restrictions on them, I hold some hope that we could somehow land Jamaal Brown. Penn from Tampa would be OK by me, but far from exciting. ANY FA LT that is functional, because ...

I HAVE A PLAN---

Re-sign Cliffy (ALONG with that FA LT)

Draft THREE LEFT TACKLES IN THIS DRAFT----EARLY ---

Any of the top that fall to 23, if it has to be fucking Brown, so be it. I don't HATE Brown, and IT JUST MIGHT WORK. Campbell is OK by me, Williams, Bulaga in a miracle, Davis...whatever....chances are decent that one way or another they are going to be starting somewhere on that o line come September....

Now take the best one available in round 2 also....

Now here is where it gets really opinionated......

If Ciron Black is there at round 3....take him

TOO!

Better be looking at FA's etc. for CB, OLB, S because this is what I want in my first three rounds.....

TACKLE PROSPECTS.... 3 LEFT TACKLE PROSPECTS. The BEST one can play left tackle, and the rest can fight for the rest.

So, to recap--- I have resigned Cliffy, got Jamaal Brown or another FA LT, drafted THREE---count 'em----THREE Left tackles in the 1st three rounds.

Shit, if you guys are good with Kampy playing OLB, I'm certainly good with trying LT's at LG and certainly RT

If anyone says anything about drafting a WR or an RB, I'm upping it to FOUR, lol

I love your passionate write-ups. Lol. I'll react to this seriously. I can never figure out whether you're screwing around or are dead serious.

First problem. I'm not ok with Kampy playing OLB. He should not be on our roster next year. I don't care if we don't get anything for him. All that he'll do is hold back our young guys while he's out there looking awfully average. At best.

The next problem is, those young guys aren't elite players, either. Jones isn't good enough at the point of attack. He doesn't get passed most RTs. Thompson has been a question mark so far, but didn't look too good in his rookie season. Poppinga isn't the pass rusher you want there.

That leaves us with a big hole right there. A hole I wouldn't mind being filled with a 1st rounder in Brandon Graham. Or a 2nd rounder in Kindle, maybe.

Or an elite safety, for that matter. And a young corner. And a KR/PR. And yes, Dave, a RB.

Sorry.

We can put up 45 points with a good O-line. We can't stop an opposing team from scoring 51 with a good O-line.

If we where to invest all those picks into our O-line, though, I'd rather have us trading up. Throw a 1st, a 2nd and, maybe, a 3rd to one of the teams a little higher up in the first round and go with a real quality OT.

I can't wait till draft day. Be sure to join the gameday chat, Dave. Dhazer exploding when we didn't draft Crabtree was amusing. Dave going crazy when we don't pick an OT in the first two rounds will be hilarious.

No offense, of course.

I don't like Brown either. I see him as the Olineman that slips in the draft. Out of Okung, Cambell, Davis, Buluga, and Lupati, I think one will be around.

If all five of these guys are gone two positive things can still come out of this.
1) A really good football player at another position will be sitting there if five OL go in the first twenty two picks.
2) Ted Thompson may find a trade partner, move back, and that would give him an extra player through three rounds and he could go after TWO Olineman and hope one turns out to be good.

There are a lot of good OL playing right now that were not drafted in the first or second round. It's really important we find at least ONE in there somewhere.

Okay, I know you like the PFF stats...but....is Daryn Colledge really a better run blocker than Steve Hutchison?

Heck, the idea that DC might be a top 20 guard somehow....that's the definition of a "WTF!" moment!

I have to draw an analogy to explain what I "like" about PFF.

Have you ever worked on your automobile?

Ever go to Pep Boys or any of the other auto parts stores?

Let's say you wanted to get some guidance in how to fix or troubleshoot a problem with your car.

As a shade tree mechanic, you are probably going to find a Chilton book on the shelf. Is that as good as Mitchell (on demand?) or All-Data online, or ideally..factory/manufacturer's guide online?

Hell no! The Chilton book sort of sucks in comparison, but at the same time, it beats the living hell out of trying to fix/diagnose the problem only armed with something like an owner's manual.

The teams got the online factory repair guides...for player "grading"

We got the pos Chilton book in PFF.

Not a lot of love, lol

If anyone has a better positional ranking site, I say we look at it.

Neat analogy.

(And I'm betting that Chilton has done far more for the "overall American male automobile experience" than Mitchell et al, too.)

I like the stats, actually. I just don't like admitting that there might be positive evidence linking Daryn Colledge to "top 20 OG in NFL". 🙂

Piss on those offensive line stats.. watch the kid play ball.. and if you think he is a top 20 guard... call your eye doctor, because you are suffering from some type of Green and Gold illusion.

IMO.. last season at the end of the season, we had only one player that could be argued to be in the top 20 at his position.. and that is Tauscher at Right Tackle.. looking only at the Right Tackles. Sitton at guard is a closer to being in the top 20 than Colledge.

Wells is a effort guy.. just gets over matched physically at times.. Spitz I think could have a huge impact if they can settle on his position and he can stay healthy long enough to get into a rhythm.

It is a freaking shame the Meredith was scooped off the PS.. I think he could develop into a solid depth tackle and maybe a solid starter in a couple years.. with proper teaching.. which unless we make a change.. he wouldn't have gotten under Campen.

IMO.. we need more help/depth at tackle.. with another tackle prospect to be groomed for 2011.. if there is football then.

Heck, even the most hard core Packers fans won't be under the illusion that DC is a top 20 G. If anyone thinks that as of right now, they need to get a prescription for their sanity pills.

You know, I'm a stiff critic of Colledge (who isn't?), but you have to acknowledge the positives he brings to the table. Dude has versatility seldom seen amongst o-linemen; he can play LT, LG, RG, RT. Granted he didn't do too well last year, but in times past he has done adequate as a stop-gap when a starter has a minor injury. Add to that, when the infamous Offense only meeting took place after the Tampa loss, and everyone (Aaron, Driver, etc.) was hammering the o-line, it should be noted that Colledge was the first one to step up to the defense of his peers along the line and (rightfully) point out that the receivers too were at fault for dropping passes they shouldn't, and (also, rightfully) Aaron was holding on to the ball too long and responsible for an unusually high number of sacks himself.

You have to applaud the efforts of Colledge as a teammate, and the leader-like skills (IMO) he showed in defending his men while not meaning to defer all the blame.

If you tender Colledge the 'same round RFA tender' then, according to Bechta over at NFP, Colledge will be set to make $1.17 million if he receives no other offer. That isn't a bad price to pay for Colledge, despite all his poor performances the last year. I say that under the assumption that Colledge will not be an automatic starter, but have a chance to compete for the LG spot. If he wins, then it's a bargain for a starter. If he loses out, not a whole lot to play for the top back-up at a few positions.
