I want to see them draft 2 OL. LT in round 1. G in rounds 3 or 4.
And pick up a QUALITY RT via trade or a FA.

Resign Clifton and Tauscher to 1 year deals.
Release Barbre and Giacomini.

the line would be:


LT		LG		C		RG		RT
Clifton		Spitz		Wells		Sitton		Veteran FA
Draft Pick	Colledge	Dietrich-	Draft Pick	Tauscher
				Smith				Lang  

There would be flexiblity all across the line. If we can not land a FA RT then Lang would have to step up sooner.

Barbre just can't do it. Maybe they can move him to DE and give him a chance to stay on the team lol.

They might let Clifton go, looking at how he's injured every 10th play, have Lang play LT and resign Tauscher to play RT. That actually looks like quite a good line, already.

Dark horse pick would be Giacomini starting at RT and not resigning Tauscher.

Anyway, we have some options up front. Even without a draft pick.

I think that we're in somewhat of a luxury position. We have a position in the draft where we'll most likely have a shot at either an OT, a DE/OLB or a S who's sliding down. Just put some guys up on your board and see who slides down to us.

My guess right now would be Lang - Spitz - Wells - Sitton - Tauscher to open this season. Even if we do have a 1st rounder on our roster.

You think that it'd be that bad?

I don't know who else we're going with. Bulaga would be a tackle who we could slide in immediatly, but he's shooting up the rankings, for some reason. It looks more and more unlikely that we're taking him.

Charles Brown would be in our range, most likely, but he's playing around 280 right now and isn't the strongest OT in the draft. He'll be on his ass every time that Allen tries a bull rush. He'll be good, but not right now.

I'm just wondering, what do you think? I can't see Clifton coming back. He should retire if you ask me. He's destroying his body. He'll be unable to walk when he hits 45 if he keeps this up. You can't build on him, anyway, if he's back. He'll be out as often as he's playing.

That leaves us with no one but Lang at LT, really. Tauscher is still a great RT. I'm just going with the interior line that looks the most propable to start right now.

Good point regarding Rodgers. We hit a gold mine that very, very few teams have hit (only Montana/Young/Bledsoe*arguably*/Brady spring to mind - a Franchise quarterback after another.

We'd be foolish not to take the calibre of personnel on the offensive line seriously, i.e. a highly touted pick or a good trade/FA.

I don't want Brown, but am afraid that he is the exact kind of player we will in fact draft. I hate the SOB already. I HATE light in the pants players. My HOPE for Lang, who WEIGHS 307, not 316, according to HIM, is that he is hitting the weight room HARD this off-season. My 1st choice for Lang would be RT, second choice LG, and no way in hell has he shown that he can play LT.

I want an FA LT. Like I said, with the Saints holding 2 good ones, imo, coupled with the final 8 restrictions on them, I hold some hope that we could somehow land Jamaal Brown. Penn from Tampa would be OK by me, but far from exciting. ANY FA LT that is functional, because ...

Any of the top that fall to 23, if it has to be fucking Brown, so be it. I don't HATE Brown, and IT JUST MIGHT WORK. Campbell is OK by me, Williams, Bulaga in a miracle, Davis...whatever....chances are decent that one way or another they are going to be starting somewhere on that o line come September....


Now take the best one available in round 2 also....

TACKLE PROSPECTS.... 3 LEFT TACKLE PROSPECTS. The BEST one can play left tackle, and the rest can fight for the rest.

So, to recap--- I have resigned Cliffy, got Jamaal Brown or another FA LT, drafted THREE---count 'em----THREE Left tackles in the 1st three rounds.

Shit, if you guys are good with Kampy playing OLB, I'm certainly good with trying LT's at LG and certainly RT

If anyone says anything about drafting a WR or an RB, I'm upping it to FOUR, lol

OL who should be told they have a starting spot: Sitton.

OL who should be told they can compete for a starting spot/backup spot: Every other OL on the 2009 roster.

OL on end-of-2009 roster who should be told they have a real good chance of starting: Wells. Maybe Tauscher.

Draft strategy: OL early. OL middle rounds. OL late rounds. OL OL OL.

Free agency/trades: OL OL OL OL. Be willing to over pay and take chances.

5 out of 22 starting positions are on the OL. Well more than 5/22, well more than 18 people, should be on the opening roster for training camp. And (assuming there are no FA/trade moves for obvious kiss-ass starter types), only one of the starting positions should be set.

There is nothing more important than getting a kick-ass OL. Nothing.
