Aren't we moving slightly away from ZBS to a more hybrid scheme? That's why we drafted Giacomini and Sitton wasn't it? They're larger bodies.

We are doing a whole lot more answering press conference questions with "Well, we run a hybrid and are moving away from zone to outside zone, yada yada yada" talking about it than doing about it.

It is hard to do...the "switch" This gets back to my Duke thing. Had Ted taken him, I would have announced to this forum (with glee, btw)

We are doing it! We are moving away from the GD ZBS!!!!

Edit---

And because we have not developed linemen to "progress" ...

we can all discuss "need" vs. "BPA" and "Value" til the cows come home

Our LT situation is now long past shit or get off the pot stage.

It has entered "F%cking dangerous" to our ability to succeed, and more importantly, the physical safety of our QB- stage

We are practically forced to re-sign Cliffy as things stand, and if that's who trots out there opening day as starter...well, see previous mention. The only thing worse would be to NOT sign him, and those options SUCK, imo.

I'm sorry, I got off on a tangent...I'd be very happy with the pickup of this guard, and yes, I have seen many projecting him to Minn---

It's all going to start changing now. This bowl practice probably does more "changing" than anything---Rock is on the case.

You wanted Robinson. I wanted Oher. We've both brought it up as much as we can. Lol. It's amazing that Dhazer didn't do the same with Crabtree.

you cant compare robinson to oher or crabtree ... I remember when we picked up meridith - he was taken in the 5th round <<< notice the 5 there.
And I think it was dfosterf and he was telling all about robinson and I was looking up his stats etc ... and thats when we grabbed meridith (I was actually hoping wed grab either one of these guys) ...

I want Iupati at LG, Spitz and center, and Sitton at Right guard. Draft your project guy at LT and sign Clifton to 2 year deal. Keep Tauscher as well and let Lang compete for right tackle. Put a 2nd round tender on Colledge and let him fight for a job. If someon signs him, take the draft pick. That goes for Spitz too. Wells is a nice safety blanket.

I would rather take a sure thing with Iupati and lock down a position for a decade than take a late first round left tackle that won't be ready to play. With Iupati and Sitton at guard, we can shove the ball down people's throats.

He is talking about the speeches, Dulak, not where/when we thought they should go.

I wanted Duke in the 2nd round... That is where he was projected to go about this time last year...

He fell to the 5th because of some (still) unknown issues...At least that has been what speculated upon in the media.

My "speeches" started out with Oher, then went to Raji--1st round speeches, that is, and my "Raji speech" is somewhat legendary around here, just ask Dhaze the Crabdouche lover, lol

Trust me, we know full well where the picks went.

I like the idea of getting Lupati. Should definitely help our running game. I don't want an offensive line like the Colts (although they are EXCELLENT at pass blocking) because they can't even get a few inches on a QB sneak because of how small they are.

I think getting Lupati would lock down our LG position for years to come, and should definitely help with the Williams wall. Then I think we should draft a LT prospect in the 2nd round or even trade up and get one...

Sign Cliffy to a contract and let the prospect get groomed into the starting role while Lang is working on overtaking the RT spot.

Maybe we could get this Lupati guy and then do a trade up again and select Brian Bulaga if he is still there....now THAT would be a dream situation.

My thinking is we already have a guy like this in Lang. I think he would make a great LG and if we needed to he could move out to Tackle if Tauscher (who I hope they resign) goes down.

From everything I am reading I think Ted Thompson would go with Davis or Bulaga at T if either are available but they are labeling Cambell as a risk and that doesn't sound much like a Ted Thompson pick. Not after the risk they took and failed with at RT to start this year.

I would be o.k with Bulaga, Lang, Wells, Sitton, and Tauscher. Definately more bully in that lineup than what we have had. I like the mentality of that lineup. All play with a chip on their shoulder.

If Iupati is the next best guy on the board Ted Thompson WILL get him BEFORE he would take a Cambell who they say is a boom or bust guy.

If Kindle or Hughes (OLB) are around or Bulaga and Iupati is there I would take Bulaga first but it will all depend on I think it will depend on who is perceived highest on the list. Any one of the four would be great additions.

Iupati would actually be going a little high at #23 whereas Kindle, Hughes, or Bulaga would be a pleasant surprise there.

I am placing the need for speed(rushers) as great as the need to protect from them. At this point I almost feel we have more options and ways of solving the OL blocking issues than we have the talent at getting after the QB.

We paid for Mathews and he was worth his weight in gold but we just don't have another one among the other three that gets there like we need it.

I see a lot of people are expecting us to draft a rookie to start but I'm not real big on penciling in ANY rookie as a starter. I wouldn't be ok with any plan that involves putting a rookie in a starting spot on the line automatically.

I want to see Clifton and Tauscher resigned with expectations that they start. Going into training camp/preseason expecting a line like -
Cliffy, Spitz/Lang, Wells/Spitz, Sitton, Tauscher - is much better IMO because you know all of the guys on your line CAN actually play their position. You draft 2 maybe 3 lineman with at least 1 in the first 2 rounds and expect them to play backup.

If the rookies impress and win a starting spot all the better. I just do not want to see a repeat of last season where we are rocking a first time starter (Barbre) at a very important position because we didn't really leave any other option.

I agree with you. Penciling in a rookie at starter is no way to FIX a problem, it only creates more problems. Now if we grab a rookie that plays his way into a starting role so be it.

Mike Mayock, draftnik for the NFL Network, said he thinks Iupati has the ability to play at all five positions along the OLine.

I'm not sure where he'd end up, but he'd certainly fit with TT's mantra of getting good football players and kind of worrying about where they'll play later.

After his dominating showing in Snr Bowl practices I actually think he may be taken before our pick at 23.

beast (10h) : Also why do both NYC teams have absolutely horrible OL for over a decade?
beast (10h) : I wonder why the Jets always hire defensive coaches to be head coach
Zero2Cool (20h) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (20h) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (23h) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (23h) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job

Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you. I rarely get sick, and even more rarely sick to the point I can't work.
wpr (22-Jan) : Beast- back to yesterday, I CAN say OSU your have been Michigan IF the odds of making the playoffs were more urgent.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : It is a big deal. This host is having issues. It's frustrating.
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Oh snap!!!
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Even Stevie Wonder can see that.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Nah, you see Lions OC leaving to be HC of Bears is directly related to Packers.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ohhhhhhh Zero is in TROUBLE
packerfanoutwest (21-Jan) : Zero, per your orders, check Bearshome, not packershome
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Then he'll land with another team and flourish.
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Ben going to Bears. He'll be out in 3 years.
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : what's so funny?
