Capers 0
Favre 8

BUT, my question is ... has Mike McCarthy lost control over this team? Not did we blitz enough, etc. My frustration comes from hearing the same thing from Mike McCarthy's mouth, yet to me, it's not translating onto the field. What's the problem? Are we too young to do as were told?

I'm not saying he has lost the team for sure, guaranteed, no question about it. I'm more so questioning whether he has or not. On some aspects, I think he has to a certain degree and needs to fix it.

"Zero2Cool" wrote:

I couldn't answer that question - I don't think anyone on a fan board can. He sure doesn't seem able to get the level of play up on our o-line (or that's on his coordinators, which comes back to him), and has had some trouble accounting for that in his play calling.

Angry players, you'll have that - Favre carved them up and I know that can't have felt good. I'm not sure that's an indication that MmC's lost the team, though.

But is it possible? Sure.

I don't think I have bitched about the defense either. I think I said, "They are what they thought they were", or somesuch. They are. (The Vikes)

Overall, I was pleased with our D.

That keystone cops play included. That was quite Favre-esque, lol

Point is, not for a moment did I think anything but that this would require some serious offensive firepower to pull off.

Instead what happened to a large degree was a complete perfect storm of setting up our defense to fail...Both from our offense and our special teams.

Jolly--- I could kill that motherfucker right about now for that, plus his comments... I didn't need those comments---I think a PART of me understands all that, both the head butt and the stupid comments post-game, whenever.

Johnny, you might not have cost us this game, as you say, but in the speculation department, there is such an animal as momentum and home field advantage.......................that shit was a MAJOR fuck up, pal.

Defensively that 3rd 17 and the 3rd and 11---- Ouch. Over it, though.

We ALMOST overcame that Jolly penalty...THAT would have been amazing, I tell ya.

Favre and his play or some comparison contrasts or "what-ifs"

Complete bullshit, still. I enjoyed playing that son of a bitch. I just wanted to beat him. :thumbleft:

The Vikings played like they had Brett's back.

The Packers played like they didn't have Aaron's.

That is what many see, not just me.

Sure, I would like the 0line to play a little better but that's not even what cost us this game.

1) Special Teams. Specifically kickoff coverage although they got a punt return back to the 49 too.
2) The head butt. Four points
3) Missed FG
4) failed two point conversion- that was a walk in.

"warhawk" wrote:

This is where you and I seem to look at things differently. There are absolute situations in this game where things could have gone differently.

With exception to the kick off return coverage, they are isolated plays.

Our offensive line issues is an issue on more than 50 percent of our snaps, I will every day count that as a bigger reason for our struggles than a missed 51 yard field goal. Or Kevin Williams making a play on a short toss.

Jolly's play.. there is no excuse for that.. guy can play, but this isn't the first mistake that has cost us.

This  sums it up very well..

But the same old nagging problems persist:

The Packers cant protect Rodgers, who has suffered a league-high 31 sacks, including six more times on Sunday against the salivating Vikings.

The Packers cant run the football, with Ryan Grant showing the teams true colors by gaining 30 yards in 10 carries against a good defense.

The Packers cant help themselves from committing stupid penalties.

The Packers cant count on their special teams, no matter how much emphasis was placed on that area during the offseason.

But again.. we seen this team respond in the second half.. that speaks well for the "heart" of this club. And if the head coach is responsible for all upon the field, then he has to get a little credit in this respect. No?

Here's my challenge: find the number of 3 step drops and 5-7 step drops from last night. When someone has done that then we can debate the merits of each as they pertain to a) the defense scheme b) how the offense is trying to attack the defense c) the down and distance d) any more variables anyone can think of.

According to the game log, we were in Shotgun 46 of about 65 offensive plays, including those nullified by penalty.

You wonder why teams pass rush us hard? Run options are very limited.

And when they do blitz, Rodgers torches them:

75.4 completion percentage
6 TDs
2 INTs
unheard of 13.65 Y/A
11 sacks

To be fair to PFWT, because of our lack of running game, the DEs can play pass almost exclusively, which would increase the pass rush effectiveness of 4 guys coming to the QB.

I get the point. But it's not just because of our "run production" it's because we were trailing nearly the entire game and our positive plays came IN the passing game. I just think it's a waste of plays to try to grind it out against Minnesota ESPECIALLY when we need to put points on the board.

At some point you just have to make plays (i.e. the second half of last night's game).

I'm a little surprised nobody brought up the field goal on 4th and goal from the 8 in the 3rd quarter. At that point we were down 24-3 and in my opinion a field goal isn't helping us that much. It's still a 3 possession game. I would have liked to see McCarthy have a little faith in both our offense and defense in that situation. For many of their drives, Minnesota was working with a short field. I'd like to think, in the event we didn't get the touchdown, our defense could have come up with the stop. Instead we go for the field goal and it's a little more forgettable because of the fumble on the ensuing kickoff. Let's just say we got for it, get the touchdown, and the fumble still occurs on the kickoff. Then it's a 17-24 game instead of 13-24 and our next touchdown ties it.

Not a bad point to bring up, although I'm of the mindset that in that particular situation you take the points. If you're sittin' at 4th and goal it's because the three previous chances you didn't get it done. Now, 4th and goal from the 3-yard line or less? That's a little different story.

I remember last season many 'experts' were saying Marvin Lewis had lost his team. Meaning they just weren't listening to him and believing into his system.

I think Mike McCarthy is having that issue now. Jenkins and Woodson have both spoken out against the new scheme. Kampman I don't think much likes it. Jolly basically thinks his actions with that penalty were okay. I say he thinks they were okay because he said he's not going to change. I would expect a well disciplined player to say "i need to play smarter than that", instead of hearing him say "it didn't cost us the game".

On offense we have so many dumb holding calls. I counted two in the first half that weren't even called. Some say you can call holding on every play. I'm talking these two holding's were change the players direction holding.

I think he has the ability to take the team back. However, I think he's too stubborn to adapt to what he needs to in order to do so.

"Zero2Cool" wrote:

1: Woodson question a personnel move. That's on TT, not MM.
2: Jolly didn't actually do anything. He just got in the guy's grill. Queen defenders did that to us at least like 3 times. To our WRs. That was a "reputation" call.
3: Kampy isn't really cut out for the 3-4. I suspect he'll be a Viking next year.
4: Jenkins may be frustrated. He'll be fine.
If this team gave up, I would be concerned. They fight until the last whistle and never give up. That's not a team that has given up on their coach.
