I wanted an was happy with the Hawk selection. Still am fine with it too. To answer your question, which I think is very easy. Haloti Ngata.

I wanted Ngata, just because of all the problems we had historically finding guys who could stuff the run. Remember when Grady Jackson fell out of the sky that year? Man, that could have been very grim. The first thing Ted Thompson did was sign Pickett as a free agent. That was a foundational move.
But man, Ngata was looking good to me. Still, I have no problem with Hawk, then or now.

Exactly. I mean, in hindsight Antoine Bethea would've been a better option, but he was a 6th/7th round talent. Marcus McNeill would've been great as well, but he was a 5th rounder.

Fact is, Ngata would've been a reach. We picked the guy everyone expected us to pick. I don't blame Ted Thompson one bit for that one. When you look at his college career, there was no reason for him not to produce on a high level. Maybe his ceiling was a little lower than most guys in the top 10, but he'd be solid. No one thought that his ceiling would be this low, though.

Again, I don't mind Hawk, I think that he's a very solid player. It's just that he's beeing overpaid right now for the job he does. If he takes a paycut, I'd gladly take him back.

Maybe Ted Thompson will do something with that cap space then, as well.

I find it curious when some say Hawk is solid but underachieving that all of a sudden we are challenging his worthiness of being selected by the Packers.

Hawk was easily the best linebacker in that draft and we needed help.. it made sense.

Hawk isn't a bad player.. just not playing at the potential some (me) thought he would have looking at his college career.

I like Hawk.. I just wish he was more attacking at the LOS, aggressive in shedding blocks and played with a little bit of pissoffness to him.

I guess that is what I was trying to point out. I was thrilled with the pick and there were not a lot of other options available to GB. DL was not a huge concern. Secondary was fine. You can always use bodies on the OL. RB, WR and QB were set to one degree or another.
Hawk just made sense. If he flew around the field now like he did in college he would get more support from the fans.

I think he has done a pretty decent job as some have said. Maybe not the most glorious players but he has seemed solid and I don't think he makes many mistakes.

Can Hawk play O-Line. I bet he would start there. Even at his size he would probably be better than Colledge.

Hawk played well today. Was good at cutting off angles for the running back and made a few nice tackles. Seemed pretty aggressive and assignment sure. Of course, since he didn't have 2 sacks and an interception, I fully expect people to dog him.

Same for Barnett.
William Henderson didn't have to run people over. His preferred method was levitation.
