How does AJ Hawk's mediocrity turn into "Fire Ted Thompson"?

AJ Hawk is average. We've got other LBer's with higher ceilings.

use hawk for a trade, its all hes good for right now

His performance and price tag wont net you more than a 4th or at best a 3rd round pick. Seems kind of a waste since we spent a first on him. Its better to ride out his contract and see if he can earn another one. Not to mention the trade deadline has passed. Only way to get rid of him would be to cut him.

Hawk wants to return to Packers next season

by Pete Dougherty, Green Bay Press-Gazette

Regardless of his current role, linebacker A.J. Hawk says he would like to remain with the Packers beyond this season.

That decision, though, almost surely will come down to whether hes willing to take a major pay cut from the $4.1 million hes scheduled to make in base salary next year.

Hawk, who has played only in the Packers base defense the last two games, was on the field for only nine snaps against the Detroit Lions last week because defensive coordiator Dom Capers deployed nickel personnel most of the game.

Its a given the Packers wont bring back Hawk next year at that pay. They presumably would ask him to take a pay cut before releasing him, and if they do, it will be up to Hawk to accept their new offer or force them to cut him so he can sign with another club.

I dont know, if that happens well cross that bridge when we come to it, Hawk said of a pay cut. I like it here. Definitely. Regardless of how many reps Im getting right now I still want to be here. Id much rather be not playing as much as Id like on a good winning team and a solid organization than starting for a team going 2-14.

I won't blame any player who leaves Green Bay via free agency, Ted Thompson drafts them, they come in and learn the system, play their best, in Hawks case, never missing a game in 3 years, leading the team in tackles 2 out of 3 years, playing good solid football.

But it is never good enough, some on this forum just look for something to bitch and whine about.

Hawk will be gone next year, he will be replaced with someone younger and full of potential, and the Ted Thompson cycle will continue, 20 some million under the cap, with one of the youngest teams in the NFL.

My only question is who will be blamed next year?

Yeah, because we can't blame the guy for underachieving and not playing up to his potential and salary.

I explained enough in my last post. Most of the guys here are argumenting their statements. I have no problem with that.

I'm pretty sure that we'll complain about whoever it is who's not playing good next year.

And you will have plenty to complain about.

As The Packers keep swmming in the pool of mediocracy year after year.

The article is very opinionated. I think Hawk will be back unless the Packers get a good trade offer in the off-season, but to suggest that he'd have to take a pay cut or his days in GB are numbered will end up being just plain wrong in my view.

Ted Thompson mind you, paid KGB quite a bit of money for about two years to basically be a 3rd down player.

source..packer.com

2006-Started all 16 games and led the team with 155 tackles (112 solo), second most ever recorded by a Packers rookie (Rich Wingo, 166 tackles in 1979), and led linebackers with 3 sacks

2007-Started all 16 games (plus both playoff contests) at WLB and finished second on the team with 129 tackles (81 solo), adding one sack, one fumble recovery, one forced fumble, one interception and four passes defensed
Played 92.2 percent of the defensive snaps

That's one hellof a drop off from year one to year 2. Ted should have realized he screwed up after the 2007 season and got rid of Hawk then.

Way to go Ted!!!

2008-Started every game for the third straight season, playing through chest and groin injuries
Had nine starts at weak-side linebacker and final seven at middle linebacker, where he replaced the injured Barnett
Led team with 121 tackles (84 solo)Led linebackers and was tied for second on the team with 3.0 sacks
On the field for 869-of-1,050 (82.8 percent) defensive plays, most among the teams linebackers

Yea he really dropped off in 2008!!!

Buckeye- I think you need another source for stats.

NFL.Com (official site of the NFL) has his stats for 2006-2008 much lower than the stats you list:

--------S/A, T
2006: 82/37, 119 tot (vs 112/43, 155 tot)
2007: 78/27, 105 tot (vs 81/48, 129)
2008: 67/19, 86 tot (vs 84/37, 121)

I looked at some other sites (ESPN, CBS, etc) before I posted my comment. Those sites are all in line with NFL.COM's.

dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger

Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
