McCarthy on changing playcalling duties

Packers coach Mike McCarthy talks about how his role will change with a new playcaller for the offense.

"I'm still coaching."

I'm glad they did this, because there was just something about Mike's psychology that made them emotionally contract at the end of games. So it kind of had to be done. I'm optimistic for now.

Regardless, the "play to not lose" philosophy which rears it's ugly head at times under McCarthy will probably linger.
Mike just doesn't have it in him to put his foot on an opponents throat until they tap out.

Time will tell when the game is on the line, down by 4, @ the Packers 22 yd line with 1:55 to go and all 3 time outs. Is he gonna tell Clemments, "I got this", because he "IS THE HEAD COACH"?

I think the playing ("not") to lose mentality is more of a problem then the stat whoring. That's why I an in favor of the move. I think if Clements turns out to be a disaster, that Mike will make another move and hand the reigns to Edgar Bennett, to whom the duty SHOULD fall. But if Aaron can legitimately get it done using Clements as a proxy, then by all means, I can take a little stat whoring.

Aaron Rodgers only called the plays for one half in that 2011 Lions game. I don't remember if it was first or second half though.
