I'm all for getting Rodgers help, but I don't see any team parting with a starting left tackle in midseason. Joe Thomas for Aaron Kampman is a pipe dream. Yeah maybe Kampman, another player (Hawk?), and two firsts and a third or 2nd for Joe Thomas.

You still want to do that?

If I'm Cleveland, I'd ask for Cullen Jenkins instead along with all those picks I mentioned and maybe a LB.

Only viable compensation for Kampman is picks.

GB wouldn't get Jordan Gross, Michael Roos, Marcus McNeil, Jason Peters etc.. It's just unrealistic and that's my point.

That prediction for players and picks for Joe Thomas is a crock. It's JOE THOMAS, not Anthony Munoz.

Keep Kampman. Use him like Ware is used.

I don't want to turn this into Joe Thomas can be had for what thread, but my guess is probably closer than you think. Thomas is the best young LT in the league. LTs hold the same value as QBs in some league circles. It depends on the player obviously. I would say Joe Thomas is better than any player on the Packers' roster under the age of 30 and not named Aaron Rodgers. Even then, I think I'd rate Rodgers and Thomas very close. Cleveland would hold all the cards. GB is the one that's desperate and not them. There is no point for the Browns to do the deal. Jay Cutler went for two first, Kyle Orton, and a third. Thomas goes for something similar if not more especially since Kampman is an average linebacker in their eyes instead of a great defensive end. At the very least, it takes two firsts a third and a player. All I did was add Hawk who again is very average.

Like I said, I think that Thomas being traded is very much a longshot. The only way I can see him going is to the Jets for some picks and some Jets players who Mangini loves so much.

I still think that the Gross trade that I mentioned would be plausible. Especially since he's a little older, as well. Just like Kampman. I don't think it'd be a straigth up trade, we'd most likely have to give up a 3rd or something, but I think that that offer would be decent for both sides. Otah is more than capable of starting on that left side if he gets some fundamentals down. Problem would be that they'd haven no one for the right side.

terrible idea!

how about we change the defensive scheme and allow our best pass rusher to actually rush the passer.

did it ever occur to our defensive coordinator that the packers have no where near the talent the Steelers had on their defensive line, therefore, the scheme that was succesful in Pitt, may not work in GB.

just a thought

WTF didn't you watch the defense last year the 4-3 didn't work to well did it? I know you like to do alot of bashing but switching to the 3-4 was a good thing and it will take a few years to get all the guys needed for it. This is all a learning experience for most of our defensive players.

If we're not giving up on Kampy after 4 games (and honestly, am I the only one who remembers that he's the one who got to Favre and forced that fumble a mere 2 weeks ago?), we sure seem to be giving up on Capers.

I'm not saying that there isn't merit in the discussion and I do agree that Kampy's best interests should be considered, but this just smells like giving up to me.

Which is understandable - the team hasn't performed to the (completely unrealistic, IMO, but nobody asked me) expectations the pre-season engendered, and it's hard to feel like the Powers That Be have done much to remedy the ills. I guess what I'm saying is that if the Pack wins the next few games (and beats Minny at home), which I believe they have the potential to do, I have a feeling the tone around here will change. If they don't, well, I guess we'll deal with that then.

For the record, I'm against trading him unless: 1. He truly wants to be traded, and 2. They can get something they need THIS SEASON for him, like a RB or OT - and they better be damn good and young, as well. Giving away a guy who has all the potential in the world to be a beast for some future draft picks is a giving up move. Just my opinion.

Kampy won't be traded unless it's a "too good to pass up deal." Trading him for a player involves cap hits for other teams too. And not many are in the same position as G.B. (Goss just signed. His whole bonus would excelerate to this year! Carolina can't afford it.)

He won't be traded for picks. What's the point? He can be tagged after the year and traded for picks. Besides Teddy can pick where he sends him and that kind thing is Teddy's bag. Control.

I don't know about you guys but can this "youngest team in the league" really afford to lose another veteran for draft picks or an unknown locker room influence?

Finally short of someone knocking Teddy's socks off why not give Kampy time to adjust?

He might not be the best athlete but he is one hell of a football player!

I don't think anyone is giving up on Kampy.

I think what we're discussing here is what's best for the team. Kampy's strengths are not utilized with our style D. Plus, we have a HUGE issue with our OL. So big in fact it's bringing the whole team down. Our O can't stay on the field which is bringing down our D, who's on the field too long.

I love Kampy, but for the team, I'd consider a good OT for him. I'd continue to cheer for Kampy too until he retires. He's a good man, not just a good football player.

Or named Greg Jennings.

Being better than most of the roster does not merit that many picks. That's downright foolish. I mean seriously look at what you're saying. (I mean no offense here, I'm just baffled at your projection)

"""Joe Thomas for Aaron Kampman is a pipe dream. Yeah maybe Kampman, another player (Hawk?), and two firsts and a third or 2nd for Joe Thomas. """

Aaron Kampman (PRO BOWL DE)
AJ Hawk (Who averages nearly 100 tackles a season)
'10 First Rounder
'11 First Rounder
'10/'11 2nd or 3rd Rounder

FOR
Joe Thomas

See how (sorry) foolish that looks? FIVE players, one pro bowler, another dependable LB'er (half of ur starting LB staff), two first round picks and another pick ... for a LT who's one major injury away from having no career?

Sorry, that's just bogus, bogus, bogus, bogus.

If we had a lot talent and I mean talent as in backups that could be starters else where... okay sure I'll buy into that theory, but fact is, we do not have hardly any backups (Tramon Williams/James Jones) that could start for a half dozen other teams.

We lack the depth to make a trade like that. I understand you're saying that the Browns would be ASKING for that, but I think even for them to ask for that much is bogus.

That's almost as foolish as the Herschel Walker or Ricky Williams trades.
