It is a shame that B. Jackson is injured so much. I really thought he had the potential to be an effective RB for the packers. I think both the O line and RBs should shoulder the blame for the ineffective ground game.

Sutton runs a 40 in 4.7.

First, 40 times verse elusive are two different things.. quick feet, rapid cuts, body control can't be measured in a 40. Most overrated measurement ever created..

Second, I just wondered out loud how he would have ran behind this line.. he seems to be able to make one or two defenders miss once in a while.. something lacking on the roster currently... maybe Jackson brings that element in a small dose.

All I did was post his 40 time. I didn't say anything else.

I liked him, but I also liked LeShon(sp) Johnson, Chris Darkins, Travis Jervey, etc ... but just because I liked them and thought they'd do well ... doesn't mean they will or would have. We've had a lot of scat backs come and go and when they've left, they haven't been much more than a flash in the pan with their next team. So, I have to say I don't know RB's as well as the Packers. And I'm okay with conceding that skill to them.

As for Smith, fact is, we don't know if it was a mistake. That's a fact, no one can say he'd have been the savior. Now, Woodson feels more comfortable with Smith than Martin an co, so I have to side with the it was a mistake in letting Smith go. But again, truth is, it's fact we do not know so we can not say it was a mistake. He may have been worse? Smith also had a nagging injury as well. I like how no one mentions that.

I will say this. After four games, I'd rather have taken my chances with Sutton instead of Wynn and Smith instead of DeGironardo (its not DELIEVERY) at safety.

Grant just isn't getting it done. He seems slow to hit the hole (even though they are REAL small).
As long as we have no running game, teams will just tee off on AR.
Stop him, stop our O.

In the end, that is the bare bones truth, and why I personally think in the Smith case it was a mistake.

No one is calling Smith a savior, at least I am not, but if he makes one less mistake or one play a game, how much does that impact the overall team?

IMO, at this level, the NFL, the difference between player A or player B is maybe a play or two a game on an individual level, excluding the QB. You can compound that on defense, where each player is relied upon with in the scheme in pass coverage.

IE.. Maybe Smith is where he should have been verse Martin sitting dead center on the Berrian TD.. bare minimum is maybe he saves a TD.. best case is he causes a pick. Most likely either a mid range gain or an incomplete.. we have no way of knowing how that changes a game. Or maybe he blows the coverage as well.. we will never know.

But if we are going to play that unknown card, then it ends a bulk of discussion on these types of boards because the variables are endless in this game. Game of inches.

I am tried of rehashing it.. in the end, I would have rather seen Smith in the game than any day Bush is relied upon in the base defense deep responsibility. Period.

Back to topic, I wasn't barking, I was just noting that 40 speed is vastly over rated IMO when judging a player.. give me a player than can play over a workout warrior.. Sutton may never have been a superstar, but the question currently would he be better than Wynn, Jackson or maybe even Grant in toting the rock.

We need to win now.. anything that may help us now or has been done this season is being judged, it is a performance based league.

Why focus on the past, because it is apparent this staff is stubborn as hell and change is rare.

No RB is going to help. Unless they have some magic ability to gain yards when they meet 2 Dlineman and 3 LBers 3 yards deep in our backfield.

If anything, this is a bad sign on Jackson. Beginning to think that he may not make the field anytime soon.

Ain't that the truth for the most part.

But there are a couple of times Grant and Wynn have made it into the second layer of the defense and weren't able to make yards on their own.

Again.. we have all seen that is rare, partially due to the oline and partially due to our reluctance to stay with the run from play calling nature.

LOL.. probably.. between the coaching staff bailing on the run and defenders storming through the line.. it probably feels foreign as hell. 😉

Yep. This most likely won't be popular, but I put more fault on the lack of Grant's production on the Coaching Staff playcalling and the OL than Grant. When you give a RB more carries, more touches, the better they are. Grant's that kind of a back. He's not a top 10 back in the NFL, but he can be a top 20 and that's all our offense really needs to be dominant.

Oh, I can't wait for this bloody bye (or, as I've come to call it "Offseason II - The Return of the Angry Fan) to end.

Our RBs have not done terribly well - to this point. We'll see. I liked Sutton, but I recall plenty of folks on here were not thrilled about giving Wynn up, and he was being talked up as recently as a couple weeks back. In hindsight, sure - we should have dumped Wynn (and I've been on record as not being impressed with him - at all - ever) and given Sutton a go. But we didn't. I wish we had, but that's done with and there are still 12 games to look forward to.

For the record, Florio is advocating that the Pack and the Rams do a trade for Stephen Jackson. Never happen, IMO.

Giordano: way too early to judge his impact on the team, so comparing him with Smith is unfair, IMO. He could yet be a good add for the team.

As for Smith: Unless and until we saw him play in the regular season, there's no way to have known what kind of impact he would have made. As Packfan4 astutely pointed out, the whole damn team looked terrific in preseason. He was reportedly not at all assignment-sure in Pitt, was out of position several times in the preseason (someone here pointed out that even on his INT play, he was in the wrong spot), and there were numerous indications that he was troublesome in the locker room. Those are the cons, as I remember them. Pros were he knew the system (which is good, though one could question whether he followed it) and we saw one very nice interception. I just don't see him as being the panacea - I think we'll be a hell of a lot better off with a healthy Bigby in the SS spot than we would have been w/ Smith (yes, I know - he has to get healthy first).

We all (myself included) need to step off the ledge, stop looking backward, and start looking forward to the rest of this season - lots of football left to be played, yet.
