"Look for another reason to piss and moan about the management"

Dude, WTF?? Are you serious? Do you have ANY clue what you're talking about? I have been a Mike McCarthy and Ted Thompson supporter since the beginning. Do not use that rhetoric on me. It's not going to work. I do not look for reasons to slam our management team. However, when I do see things that I personally think our mistakes, I call them out. I'm not going to blindly follow them.

And as far as looking for current events to discuss, how is discussing the current state of our safety position not relevant? So, we're conversing on an internet forum, yet to reference any actions made a few months ago is prohibited? That's BS. Actions made over the past couple months directly affect where the Packers are at today, making them very relevant.

Let's see, better not talk at all about the Cincy game huh, since that's done, gone, and over with? Makes perfect sense. NOT.

Like I said, if we start showing significant improvement, then I'm sure I'll have much better things to ponder and / or discuss. However, when we lay an egg like we did last week, I'm going to discuss actions that I think contributed to getting us there.

I did quote you and made a comment I was directing towards a mass of people who doing just that, not specifically you. My fault for not being clear.

I'm saying. Steelers cut him, Packers cut him and he's a backup on the worst team in the NFL.

Reports on Smith were that he missed assignments, couldn't play special teams as well as desired and we had a rumor that the coach did not like his attitude. Add in we made a trade for Derick Martin who also has played in a 3 - 4 and (reportedly) is better on special teams. Based on that information. Would it be smart to keep a player like that?

Smith, Martin, Rouse were back up's fighting for two backup spots. And as a back up you need to be able to fill another role if possible.

I believe they kept bush for his CB "skills" and special teams and his versatility to play safety. I say we should have kept Smith over Bush, but I don't think Smith is a decent CB and apparently he's not too good on special teams.

So they kept Rouse and Martin. Cutting Smith go, makes sense to me when I factor everything in.

Now ... apparently the Packers feel Rouse is always going to under perform and be injured, so they cut him loose and added another safety to the roster hoping for improvement.

In my opinion, I don't see cutting Smith as a mistake from the information I've read and seen of him. Now, if it came down to Bush or Smith, hell yes, it was a mistake and we should have kept Smith, especially since Martin can play CB. But if the rumor was true about his attitude ... good riddance. I think more was involved than just that, but I don't think it should be over looked.

I agree with the end of your post, completely. But wouldn't you rather be reading information on Derick Martin and Matt Giordano (current Packers) and how they are going to make us better instead of lashing out at members about a player who was cut weeks ago and whether or not it was a mistake? Fine, it was a mistake, let's move on. The Packers are trying to correct that 'mistake'. Let's go about our business.

You are entitled to your opinion. Like I've said several times, I've heard your, the coaches, and others opinions on why Smith wasn't good enough to make this team. I don't buy it. I didn't buy it at the time and I don't buy it now. That is my opinion and as I've said I've yet to hear any arguments to sway my opinion. Of course I'm going to move on and start thinking about Martin and the new guy. However, this is a fresh topic in regards to cutting Rouse and signing a new safety, therefore I am expressing my frustrations. If you can't understand that, well, then I don't know what to tell you. I sincerely hope that Martin comes along and makes me totally forget about Smith. Nothing I would like better. But for the moment, I have a sour taste in my mouth compiled with the O-Line issues and I think it's a least partially justified.

Don't tell me I don't know what I'm talking about. I, along with several other posters feel as if we know what we are talking about with this issue and for you to try to take anything away from our opinions is rude. You continually use the fact that he was cut from the Steeler's. Ok, they have a pretty talented secondary already. But whatever, I can understand that he was cut from the Steeler's and I'll give you that. Now we move onto the Packers. Just because he was cut from our squad doesn't mean that I don't think it was justified, as I have already stated. Forgive me for thinking that a player that showed up on game days (regardless if it was pre-season, that's the only opportunities he's had with us), was very familiar with our system, and appeared to show more then one of our starting safeties is worth a backup spot. Now let's move to the Rams. I'm pretty sure they play a 4-3 defense. This means that Smith has to totally learn a new role and system. I'm not surprised that he's not starting with only a few weeks under this new system. That's an irrational statement. Reports from the Rams are he's looking really good and has shown things on special teams. Perhaps he's not as effective as a 4-3 safety? Who knows. The bottom line is none of this means anything as far as the value he could have had for our team.

Here's to hoping our new safeties make us forget all about this.

You people just don't understand football.

I don't care if Giordano can deliver big hits.

I care if he knows how to tackle!!

McCarty era players just can't tackle! Worse than the Sherman era! One wonders if players ever practice or even do tackling during any practice session during the year.

Vince Lombardi once told reporters, "This isn't rocket science. The team that can block and tackle better is going to win."

Thus far in the regular season the whole team has sucked at blocking and tackling.

Rouse can't perform the fundamental skill of tackling. He is now gone.

Hopefully these dummies get it through their heads that they better block and tackle or they will be unemployed soon enough.

I thought they tackled pretty well in the opener. It was a whole different story against the Bengals. Hopefully they'll show some improvement in the coming weeks.

IMHO the issues with Rouse and Smith started with their not being assignment sure. Given all the multiple looks, formations and blitz schemes that Dom wants to use, you have a lower tolerance level for players you aren't certain will be in the right place doing the right thing.

Rouse's positioning has always been rotten and I always got the sense he was gambling more than his relative lack of quickness and speed would allow.

Both Martin and Giordano sound like smart vets who fit in better with what Dom's complex schemes call for.

I think it was a sprained clavicle, but he practiced today I believe.

I really want Ted Thompson to stop messing around with the depth of this team and add some quality veterans. At this point, the Packers are good enough to add a couple of veterans to start pushing some guys in case of injuries like this. Instead, we have a plethora of options that have proven nothing in the league...guys that are just as likely to blow assignments as they are to make positive plays. It's one of the reasons why many of us pin last year's dismal season on injury. The great teams are able to plug in back-ups and still find ways to win enough games.

What does this have to do with Giordano you may ask? Well, I'm not entirely sure. I just know that the depth at safety right now isn't what I'd call comforting and that's when you turn to what's available on the FA market after Week 2...the scraps of the league.
