Let's drop whether a power ranking is meaningful or not, please? That's so old and boring. We know they mean nothing, so why rehash it?

I think they are neat to observe, not dwell upon them. I hope no one is punching a wall because the Bears were ranked higher than us. ;)

lol hey now ... jus saying we could lighten up a bit and use it for a topic of discussion, not ridicule its validity. I mean, no one has won or lost the Super Bowl based on their Power Ranking, right? So, why hash out how irrelevant it is to what happens on the field?

I say we bash the people who put us where they did instead. 😛 j/k ...

I just find it interesting to see where the 'media' has us and I like following it to see how we go up/down through the season.

Always interesting to see the first power ranking of the year. I will certainly settle with them putting the Packers at 12. That 3-4 defense will slowly move our ranking up!

I think the Vikes would've been ranked about the same even without Favre. A lot of people saw them as a team that was ready to take the next step because of their defense and running game, and they DID win the division last year.

I love power rankings BECAUSE they don't mean anything. In college football, they mean everything, and that stinks. But as NFL fans, we can just have fun with them.

EDIT: This just in: Don Banks of Sports Illustrated has the Packers at #3:

I agree. Lighten up people, geeez. I don't need anyone (as I'm sure no one else does either) to tell me that power rankings don't mean anything. NO WAY REALLY????!! They are still something interesting to look at and burn some time on while at work. Not much time, but still, better then nothing. Obviously our games are going to be won and loss on the field, but that doesn't mean that certain things aren't worth discussing.

But yeah, I don't think the Vikings, Bears, and Packers should all be in the top 12. I think the Bears are over rated to this point. We may be as well, but I just think that we have a better chance to live up to the press. I'll give the Vikings the credit they deserve, but I still think we're going to win the division!

Holy shit!! 3???

I'm going to go ahead and say over rated there. I can buy the 12 at this point, but not 3. We will have to actually win some games before we deserve that spot.

I hate to say this, but I like Don Banks opinion better than the first one posted. And no, not just because he has the Pack @ 3 but he has good rationale to each ranking. Just my opinion though.

And yes Don Banks, preseason means jack nothing.
