I have no problem believing in intelligent life elsewhere. (Now when I attend a faculty meeting, or watch CNN reporting on political life in Washington, I sometimes whether those places are capable of sustaining intelligent life, but that's another question.)

That the Bible is silent on the question (other than the "created heavens and earth" bit) seems to me far from enough to say "no." If God is smart enough to transcend my understanding on the written bits, He's certainly smart enough to transcend my understanding of the silent bits.

And of course he does.

I mean, is "granite" or "salt" a phenomenon known only on Earth? If planetary system XXX-XX has an "Earth Type" planet, will it have granite?

Heck, maybe it has sentient granite. How might God write The Word for sentient granite? Maybe sentient granite weren't dumb enough to eat from the Sand of Knowledge, and so He never needed to inspire people to write down The Book Of Granite?

It could make for some interesting conversations about countertops when we get to Heaven.

:)
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

When I hit that countertop, I'd like some assurances that there will be a bartender on the other side with my favorite adult beverage on tap.

This worries me greatly.

If some of the holy-rollin' folk I know have anything to do with it, I suspect I might be in an abstinence situation for eternity, should by some miracle I find myself in heaven in the first place.

If heaven means I am cut-off at the bar and will not see my games, they can all go to hell by sending me there with my drinking buddies.

I got my principles, after all.

Now....just for the heck of it, i'm going back to the original question about the flood. Genesis 6:17, God tells Noah of the coming flood.
Genesis 7:11 says: "in the 600th year of Noah's life, in the second month, the 17th day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up,and the windows of Heaven were opened"
Note: "THE FOUNTAINS OF THE DEEP BROKEN UP", meaning the water under the earth's crust coming up to the surface. This could have been several world wide earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. Plus the rain from above. Many "stories" about the flood, taken out of context fail to say about the water coming UP from inside the earth. It was important enough to write it in the Bible. Also, it is VERY detailed about EXACTLY when it all happened, all the way down to the 17th day of the month. If it was "just a story", why so much detail?
Genesis 9:29 tells that Noah died at the age of 950. So he lived 350 years AFTER the flood. Our life expectancy dropped very quickly after the flood. I believe it has alot to do with the water canopy over the earth that burst when the flood came. It drastically changed the atmosphere.

Now, as i have stated before, evolution qualifies as a "religion". It is after all a set of beliefs whose purpose is to tell the origin of the universe.
They even have their own language. They often use words like, "we BELIEVE", "perhaps", "Maybe", "probably", and so on. The "god" they bow down to is "nature", usually called "Mother Nature". (It's something how God is "the Father", and they use "mother" to follow.) "Mother nature" is the one responsible for everything we see. She is deaf, blind, and mute. She has NO "moral dictates". Thus, if you follow evolution, you have NO ONE to answer too.
The story of creation and the message of Jesus come from the SAME book. If you can't trust/believe one, how can you trust/believe the other?
Thats why i have problems with people that say they are Christians and say they don't believe in the Biblical account of creation.
You see, the "bible" of evolution changes all the time. Did you know that in 1925 the "science books" taught that caucasions were a supieor race over people of color? If you read Darwin's writtings, you'd see that he "preached" racism. So it seems every year, evolution stories change. But THE Bible doesn't change.

Adolph Hitler was a follower of Darwin. He used Darwin's chart to "speed up" evolution by wiping out all races that were "closer to pure ape", which evolution taught at the time.

Now I try to stay out of the religion vs science debate as much as I can and only ask questions to further knowledge, but I have to say, that is a completely ridiculous argument, Cheesey. You should know better.

I'm not even going to start to say how wrong it is to equate genocide with evolution.

Hitler was actually a Christian that did not believe in evolution. These are quotes from Mein Kampf:

The fox remains always a fox, the goose remains a goose, and the tiger will retain the character of a tiger. - Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, vol. i, ch. xi

For it was by the Will of God that men were made of a certain bodily shape, were given their natures and their faculties. - Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, vol. ii, ch. x

Basically stating he didn't believe in evolution:

From where do we get the right to believe, that from the very beginning Man was not what he is today? Looking at Nature tells us, that in the realm of plants and animals changes and developments happen. But nowhere inside a kind shows such a development as the breadth of the jump , as Man must supposedly have made, if he has developed from an ape-like state to what he is today. - Adolf Hitler, Hitler's Tabletalk (Tischgesprache im Fuhrerhauptquartier)

beast (30-Dec) : Well, Commanders are currently the 6th seed and Packers the 7th
beast (30-Dec) : Who was it in Chat, that wanted the Vikings to win (because Lions fans upset them) because Packers could not lose the 6th seed?
beast (30-Dec) : If Falcons win, Packers stay as the 6th seed and Falcons lead the NFCS, if they lose, Commanders 6th and Bucs take NFCS lead
beast (30-Dec) : Win or Loss, the NFCS is going down to week 18
Mucky Tundra (30-Dec) : if the Falcons win, how does that affect the overall NFC playoff picture? Does it mean that the NFC South comes down to week 18?
