First step, yeah, but with a 4.89 40-yard dash, that first step won't help you that much.

I much rather watch a defensive end's first step and how quick and how he accelerates than watching him run 40 yards down field. If he's running 40 yards down field then he's probably chasing someone.

The 40 is rather overrated at some positions. I think you need a good 40 to play corner in the NFL, but beyond that I'm not sure you need elite speed to play any other position.

I know what you're saying though. I find myself having a hard time figuring out where the running backs are going this year as nobody is really "elite" in my opinion.
