Yada.. Yada... Ya...

If Peppers is playing for the Packers next season, I will don a skirt and pom pom and shake a tail feather.

Hey 93, don't you wish there were normal people on this board?

I hope we get Peppers for DE on the same same side with Kampmann at OLB. That RT would lose a lot of sleep the night before games.

I was thinking either one of those guys would be worth a 3rd rounder, you get veteran leadership and good players and after all we do have 2 3rd rounders.

I disagree. Did Pace even make it onto the field last year? He seems like an equal liability to our current tackles, if you include Tauscher.

And I really feel like Holt is done. Add to that the fact that we have two receivers who had much much better 08s than he did, and Jordy developing, and I'd rather use that early 3rd on a defensive prospect. JMO

Packers | Team has three UFAs
Sun, 08 Feb 2009 15:34:27 -0800

Pete Dougherty, of the Green Bay Press-Gazette, reports Green Bay Packers OT Mark Tauscher, DL Mike Montgomery and DL Colin Cole are all scheduled to be unrestricted free agents this offseason.

"dhazer" wrote:

As I've stated in the past, it's time to let Montgomery and Cole walk. Cole already turned down a 3 year/7 million extension from the team in December and we can't really afford to pay any more than that for someone who would more than likely end up as a reserve linemen in the new scheme. Montgomery has been a relatively pedestrian reserve throughout his 4 years in Green Bay and I doubt he'll be much more than that for the remainder of his career. He got ample playing time last season after Jenkins went down and really didn't do much with it to prove he'd be worth an extension.

The primary reason I say it's time to let Cole and Montgomery go is because we are going to have to make some tough decisions during and after the '09 season as to who we want to keep and who to let go because we have several players reaching the ends of their rookie deals and/or expiring veteran contracts and only so much cap space to go around for extensions. It's money better served to keep guys like Kampman and Jennings around then reserve defensive linemen whose roles can be filled with cheaper players/draft picks.

Tauscher is the question mark in my book. He's been a consummate professional since his arrival and is a great locker room presence. That being said, he turns 32 in June and is coming off a pretty significant leg injury. This could be Ahman Green 2006 all over again. He's worth bringing back on a low-risk one-year deal, but I'd be hesitant to give him anything beyond that considering he may not even be ready for the start of training camp and there's no telling how effective he might be coming off of it.
