Well.. there you have it folks.. the first statement coming from the new defensive staff..

Read more nuggets....

Feb. 3, 2009 2:24 p.m. | Green Bay -- Mike McCarthy's new coaching staff had their first meeting just this morning, but it has already been determined that Aaron Kampman will play outside linebacker in the 3-4 scheme being implemented by coordinator Dom Capers.

"When we line up the first base defense, yes, Aaron will be an outside linebacker," McCarthy said today, just a few moments after the 11 new additions to the staff were made available to the media for the first time.

It's not a surprise that the 6-foot-4, 265-pound Kampman will be moved from the left defensive end position where he has been a fixture since 2004. But it's one of the key positions in Capers' scheme. McCarthy doesn't think Kampman will have any trouble making the transition, and won't need much tutoring from new outside linebackers coach Kevin Greene, who played the position under Capers in Pittsburgh and Carolina.

I love this little nugget.. that can only help our return game.. Morton was a dandy return man in his own right.

There was one addition to the staff we laid out on Monday -- former Saints, Jets, Redskins and Giants kick returner Chad Morton was added as the coaching administrator, which opened up when Scott McCurley was promoted to defensive quality control.

I am glad this is happening. And hey, you learn something new everyday...I did not know the Kampman played ILB for the Hawkeyes his freshman and sophomore year unless the person stating that in th comments is wrong.

This will work.

I just hope it works out. It would be a shame if we'd have to let him go because he can't produce as a OLB (or as a DE) in a 3-4.

I have faith in the coaching staff though, I asume they know what they're doing and Capers saying that he'll fit the defense to the personnel and not the other way around gives me a great feeling for next years defense.

It'll work out, probably even see his sack numbers go up? I mean, if he blitzes and has experience in rushing why not see his sack numbers go up also?

I have faith in the coaching staff making the right decisions to make the Packers defense better and I'm glad that they are starting to communicate their intentions to the fans.
I don't believe they will be able to be so forthcoming with their intentions regarding some other positions until perhaps the end of pre-season.
There are still some major decisions to be made through freeagency and the draft.

I'm looking around and he has the same build as DeMarcus Ware and Joey Porter and evidently Kampman ran a 4.65 40 coming out of college. He has the athleticism and build to play the same sort of role that Ware does for Dallas. I hope the coaching staff is right and it won't be a hard transition for Kampman.

dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
