The Packers wanted to traded back into the 1st round to draft Christian Watson. They couldn't do it so they packaged their two 2nd rounders to move up to the 34th overall pick (2nd pick in 2nd round) and selected Christian Watson. Sure, Packers could have stayed and snagged WR Alec Pierce and RB James Cook, that is true. Instead, they got a stud WR they had a round one grade on.
It blew my mind how national pundits were shredding the Packers for not using one of the two 1st rounders on WR. I suppose they could have packaged 22nd and 28th overall to get as high as 8th overall. That would have left WR Garrett Wilson (10th), WR Chris Olave (11th), WR Jameson Willians (12th), WR Jahan Dotson (16th) or WR Treylon Burks (18th). Then the Packers wouldn't have LB Quay Walker or DT Devonte Wyatt.
If we play the what if game (hey, it's the BYE week, lay off) we can bounce around hypotheticals like this. Just a few of the plethora scenarios ...
A) LB Quay Walker, DT Devonte Wyatt, WR Christian Watson
B) WR Chris Olave, WR Alec Pierce, RB James Cook
C) WR Garrett Wilson, WR Alec Pierce, RB James Cook (probably don't draft WR Romeo Doubs in 4th)
D) LB Quay Walker, DT Devonte Wyatt, WR Alec Pierce, RB James Cook
Honestly, I think A is good, and I would probably be OK with D as well. James Cook is a damn speedster.
ANYWAY! Watson landed with Packers and the last month has made it look like the future is bright!!
We have the whole hypothetical BS out of the way. Let's talk about the rise of Christian!
