Fascinating insight, Greg! I'd be interested in seeing you elaborate more on this idea, perhaps in a short article.

I have parts of me that agree with just about everyone here. BF "deserved" to continue to play, if that is what he wanted to do. I am still very impressed with Ted Thompson / Mike McCarthy making the "tough" decision in this whole matter, and saddened still that some hold a grudge against him/them for making that decision. I would have been perfectly fine with BF winning a Super Bowl this year, but I am at once perfectly fine with the concept that he played "one year too many".

I just want it to end. Just f#cking end between the fans. It is STILL a divisive issue, and has set so many in concrete as regards the current management and coaching of the Pack. I suspect that many/most of those that disagreed with the decision will NEVER give TT/MM much credit for much of anything.

I will always respect BF the player, and owe him a great debt of gratitude in the thrills/chills etc. dept. The whole fiasco was ultimately his doing, imo, and no one can change my opinion on that...ever. I saw the man cry at his presser. Please don't bring it up---if you don't see it my way. We will simply never agree, period.

If Brett retires, fine. If he plays for the Jets, fine. If he plays for the Vikes, fine. I have a better quarterback now, anyway. This is my opinion, and no one is changing it...my wife couldn't, do you really think someone else could? If so, you don't know how scared I am of her. :thumbleft:

I rooted for him strongly today. I suspect it will be the last time I will have that opportunity.

I answered nothing, but said alot, imo.

In retrospect, at best this season really accomplished nothing for Brett other than padding his stats a bit more and made him look over the hill.

It was great you got to see #4 suit up one more time, even if it was for a different shade of green, but after he basically poured his heart out last March saying he was done and had nothing left to give, if he was going to come back after that, nothing short of another deep playoff run would have made this season successful for him.

He obviously fell short of that goal and suffered through a mediocre-at-best season where he particularly fell off late in the year. It doesn't help the fact that his '08 season ended virtually like his '07 one did.

I personally think he is done now. He'll accept the $25 million dollar marketing offer from the Packers, hop on his tractor back to Mississippi, and enjoy his retirement until Canton comes calling in 2014.

I would have rather he not retired at all and take us to the superbowl this year lol but it doesn't look like that would have happened anyways. After all is said and done I am glad for everything that happened and we got to watch Rodgers play this year because I have a new favorite QB now 🙂

It's real easy now that the season did not go right for The Jets to say Brett should have stayed retired.

You can throw all the stats, anything else you want but Brett Favre ended this season just like all the rest, he went down fighting, doing what he could to help his team win.

Some will only look at the stats from yesterdays game and say "yea I knew it a along, it was a mistake for Brett to come back", what you don't find in the stats and most here won't look for it is how Brett was getting pounded the whole game, a lot like it has been the last 5 weeks, but he kept getting up and making plays.

Brett Favre should not have stayed retired, he also should not have been forced to play with The New York Jets, but it is what it is.

IMHO you take a team that went 4-12 the previous year and help them to 9-7 season, that's doubling the wins, a move in the right direction.

Not the results evryone in NY wanted but it could have been worse The Jets could have finieshed 6-10.

1. This isn't the first time people are saying that Brett should have stayed retired.

2. Everyone gets pounded, and everyone is expected to get back up and keep making plays. People start questioning when players don't do that. The issue isn't that Favre wasn't taking his licks and coming back but the fact that Favre was having more and more difficulty in actually shrugging off injuries and getting wins. This is partially why people are saying Brett's done - that he is having more difficulty with the everyday life of an NFL player.

3. Brett had his options and he was happy enough to accept a trade to the Jets. He did not get forced to play there. He could have easily, dare I say it, stayed retired.

4. A dig at the Packers I see. This is the Brett Favre forum so please refrain from bringing comparisons into here lest you incite further arguments which serves no purpose.

I'm glad all of hypocrites realize that it's a team game when Aaron Rodgers loses, but not one when BF does.

Also, the sad fact that you are celebrating a pathetic 6-10 season where we barely squeaked by the Lions and not attacking Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy is equally sad, pathetic, and hypocritical. But it is what it is.

Whether you have the courage to admit it or not (many here hate BF, or least have some lingering animosity) for coming back and playing the game that he loved, and making Ted Thompson look like a fool.

Do you also realize that BF almost threw for 4,000 yards this year as well?

That to me, is more impressive, seeing that he had done it on the Jets with two WR's who wouldn't even start on the Packers roster. Plus, add an offensive line that cannot pass protect, coaches who cannot coach, and a system that wasn't built for Favre, but for Chad Pennington, and coaches who were too stupid to realize it. Oh, and did I mention a defense that quit after the Tenessee game, 6 games ago?

You could see that even at this late date, the WR's and Favre were not on the same page. BF expected Leon to break up field after the double move, but he didn't. And the slant pass at the end went right through his WR's hands. But we won't mention that, shall we, because it doesn't pertain to our original argument? Protecting the ineptitude of TT.

Enjoy your pyrrhic victory, and your lack of knowledge about the game of football, and keep ripping off statistics that don't mean sh*t.

The fact still remains that BF was not done. That he had alot left in the tank. That Ted Thompson stabbed him in the back. And that Aaron Rodgers can not win football games.

Good luck trying to rationalize, justify, and apologise for the Packers and Ted Thompson next season. Have fun celebrating 6-10 this year.

You won't have BF to kick around any more.

Anyway.....enough of that hatred drivel. I voted yes. He has looked tired the last half of the season the last few seasons. He could have went out on top as a Packer but chose to go out with the Jets and a fan base that doesn't like him too well. It was his choice and he is big enough to live with it.

He earned the right to play another season and he did. I did root for him this season to a point. If he plays another season I will cheer him on again and hope it works out better than this season. If he doesn't come back I will put out of my memory his Jets year and remember his glory years as a Packer and be happy we had him when he was the best in the NFL.
