They will sign Jones to an affordable 3 year $24 mil with a $10 mil signing bonus.

Yeah, that's career suicide for the agent... allow your client to get less than 67% of what less talented players at his position are getting...

Same way Jadeveon Clowney and his agent Bus Cook turned down $15 million a year... then when they had to settle for $13 million with $2 million in incentives, reported they agreed Bus Cook as an agent first, so that his name wouldn't be on the deal (and maybe save Clowney some cash) even though they're reportedly still working together.

But hey, if you're right, then what a steal for the Packers! But $8 million per year is the mark Melvin Gordon got after a bad year and realizing they over setting his mark and your not as desired as you think. But unless Jones get injured or teams don't trust him to start healthy, or think he's too small, I don't see that happening. But it is possible, if the RB market truely drops out of the sky first, but then I see it as a one year prove it deal, and see the Franchise tag being applied (unless that's on Bak).

Say what you want about them. I at least put down numbers. I am fully aware other RB got stupid contracts that they will only have for 1 or 2 years.

And I don't have a good number, other than thinking the RBs agents got to be looking in the minimum of $12 million, up to $14 million per year ranges. Not saying they get it, but saying they're going to test FA if they don't get an offer that range (and maybe resign later). But I'm thinking some might be franchise tagged instead.

Those 10 million to 16 million dollar contracts for a running back are nuts.
I hope the Packers don't go down that road.
They already have a millstone around their neck with Rodgers contract, they don't need another one.

Apparently RBs market is red hot, despite being able to franchise tag them for two years for cheaper and a number of RBs failing to live up to the last group of huge contracts.

RBs Alvin Kamara and Dalvin Cook just signed new 5 year deals and I've updated the list below, based on Ian Rapoport's tweets on their new contracts.

  • 5 years / $75 million, but only $15 million guaranteed so easy to get out of the contract and they're about to go into cap hell, and the last time they did, they traded their star TE Jimmy Graham away.

So I think the market is set, for Aaron Jones to get $13+ million per season..., though, you could simply franchise tag him for less. Of course, the Saints and Vikings have other players they might prefer to franchise tag, of course this is true for the Packers to, as long as Bak is in a contract year.

What would the franchise tag number be for a RB?

What PFT said as I have it linked and quoted above.

If the cap is flat next year, the running back franchise tag is expected to be in the range of $9.4 million. If the cap drops to the minimum of $175 million, it would be $8.3 million.

Assuming PFT's math is right, then they're projecting the cost of tagging a RB twice to be about $18.5 to $22 million for two years. Or $11 million per year.

Of course, is PFT's math right? It's hard to project that second year, as it partly depends on next year salary cap, which completely depends on this year's revenue.

I would franchise tag Aaron Jones and re-sign David B.
