Only two times in seven seasons has his defense finished in the top half of the league in sacks, which includes finishing 28th and 27th in his two years with Cleveland (if the Browns count). His defenses have had great cornerbacks, which makes sense why they took Louisville’s Jaire Alexander and Iowa’s Josh Jackson in the first two rounds.

Man, I wanted to see some sacks. I guess it’s cool if overall defense gets it done though.
I take all these fluff pieces on Gilbert with a grain of salt. To me, the wild cards are
1: Pettine scheming guys open. It is conceivable that Clay hasn’t actually lost a step, that he was merely held back by Dom’s predictable defense.
2: Biegal could be legit. He could be a glorified version of Frank Zombo too, we don’t know. I am optimistic on him, though. Even Fackrell might take another step.
3: It would be cool if Perry could stay healthy for a season. Get him on a nutrition program for those bones.
