Pettine amazingly has produced great defense after great defense despite not bringing down opposing quarterbacks in the backfield much. Only two times in seven seasons has his defense finished in the top half of the league in sacks, which includes finishing 28th and 27th in his two years with Cleveland (if the Browns count). His defenses have had great cornerbacks, which makes sense why they took Louisville’s Jaire Alexander and Iowa’s Josh Jackson in the first two rounds.

Man, I wanted to see some sacks. I guess it’s cool if overall defense gets it done though.

I take all these fluff pieces on Gilbert with a grain of salt. To me, the wild cards are

1: Pettine scheming guys open. It is conceivable that Clay hasn’t actually lost a step, that he was merely held back by Dom’s predictable defense.

2: Biegal could be legit. He could be a glorified version of Frank Zombo too, we don’t know. I am optimistic on him, though. Even Fackrell might take another step.

3: It would be cool if Perry could stay healthy for a season. Get him on a nutrition program for those bones.

I'll take 9 three and outs by the defense every game over any sacks. Get that ball into Aaron Rodgers hands!!

If they stick him on the edge to get stoned over and over again by the T he's not going to do too much until he faces a back up or gets put on a stunt.

I think Biegel might be a similar situation which is good because if he can play we've got some insurance for Clay getting hurt.

The only sacks I care about are sack fumbles.
Circular Arguments: They are a heck of an annoyance

I'm about to say I'll take six hurries over one sack a game. I just think that saying no to a 16 sack season is foolish, lol. Knowing my luck, they'd all be in garbage time!

its all about quick outs....preferably 3 and out.
I realize people love stats...hurries, sacks, turnovers, but its all about getting the ball out of their hands, and into ARods
