Tex, you are correct, Pinkard can be snatched by another team on practice squad in that 6 weeks; but who would do that? Just so ya know I like Pinkard alot! When he ascends in 2017, he wont be an UDFA until 2019, if ya IR him he’ll be an UDFA in 2018. This move with a little risk, gives one more full year of Pinkard on the cheap. Plus the other benefits mentioned.
And the risk is miniscule:
No one drafted him and it only took $3K to get him to sign. GB had a stable of young receivers already Adams, Monty, Janis, Abby and 2 studs under contract for 4 years; he signed here ‘cause he had no other options. One possibility: he had other offers and realized he get good coaching, good mentoring and a legitimate shot to make some tape if he did well in practice. But, if this is why he snubbed other offers to come to GB, then why would he sign elsewhere? Unless he thinks he knows it all, in which case I’m wrong, he’ll never ascend.
Pinkard is a turn off because of ODU dismissal and doesn’t have a single trait that would make other GMs wanna take a look and then accidently discover his only outstanding trait: he’s a football player. There’s hundreds of Pinkards floating around out there, no other GM will even give him a second thought in that 6 weeks.
