If Pinkard is injured in camp and placed on IR, his 435K salary is guaranteed paid for the year [unless it’s a split contract], he can’t practice all year and this as an accrued season for min salaries and free agency vesting.
If Pinkard is waived injured, GB cant sign him again until after the injury is healed plus 6 weeks. EG, If Pinkard and GB agreed his injury requires 4 weeks to heal, then GB can sign him [probably to PS] in week 10. They only have to pay 6.3K per week salary. This gives him an opportunity to practice for 6 weeks during season and 4 more weeks in playoffs and it doesn’t count as an accrued year. And if player is on PS for less than 6 weeks it does not count as a year of PS eligibility. So in this example Pinkard might not be resigned until week 11.
I don’t think it’s risky because no one is signing Pinkard to their 53, let alone an injured Pinkard and Johnson was cut because he wasn't going to get our system. Minny dumbed down their offense for Bridgewater and Johnson benefited; regardless of what Johnson does in Minny, he would not have done that in GB.
