They beat the Super Bowl champs...they beat a once hot Eagles team by how many points? Didn't the Pats lose by 30 to the Chiefs, who didn't make the playoffs?

Who on here REALLY thought the Pack would beat the Seahawks before the game? Saying we played down to them is revisionist history.

My take on the TOPIC of the Thread is this:

It's TRUE, the Packers have had worse results than their talent would indicate they should have BUT ..... that talent level is NOT even across the board. Aaron Rodgers is the straw that stirs the drink. You get beyond him, and the talent is little if any above average.

Most of the criticism of McCarthy is very justified - hyper-cautious playcalling, etc. However, the TRUE fault lies with Ted Thompson for NOT maximizing the talent around Aaron Rodgers. If we just had a better O Line - Rodgers is head and shoulders better than Brady, but he virtually never has the time to throw that Brady has. Our Defense was better this year, but the fact is, it survives on Capers' scheming, trickery, and compensation - and a lot of times, the effectiveness of that wears off late in games.

So yeah, McCarthy has been deficient in producing results up to the standard of a team with Aaron Rodgers at QB, but the greater deficiency has been Ted Thompson failing to bring in a max supporting cast.

Am I the only one who thinks this? I read a LOT of negativity about McCarthy and hardly any regarding Thompson. Why?

Where I do tend to give him a pass is on FA. At the end of the day the player needs to want to be in Green Bay. That is a hard sell for Wives and Girlfriends as well as some young men who want a night life. Unless we want to overpay or the guys know the situation (our own draft picks) we just don't have the appeal.

Do you ever read about a FA that says he wants to come here, like we've heard about New England or recently Seattle? Yeah people want to be winners, but they always want a big market and all the perks that go with that other than an Applebee's.

I view Lacy as a superior talent. Jordy and Cobb are pretty good too. But anyway, before we "move on," I would like to fix what it is that we continue to do wrong. Otherwise we're back where we started and are not truly "moving on."

Lacy is a power runner. If he had break away speed, he'd have superior talent. You underestimate what the word superior is. Adrian Peterson was a superior talent.

We could probably have some more talent, but then again we could be in the boat of teams like the Ravens, sitting on 3 million cap space unless they get Flacco, Ngata and probably a couple others to restructure and than they are still just pushing the cost down the road.

there have been plenty of threads about Ted and the talent, recently the topic has just been more about coaching and play calling. That will all change as it always does.

For years, long before you came along, I was critical of Thompsons inability to provide better talent to surround Rodgers.
I was of the belief that McCarthy was coaching with one arm tied behind his back due to Thompsons poor drafting and unwillingness to use the free agent tool.
But now Ted has had some good drafts and has even dipped a toe into freeagency resulting in a team that should have won the Super Bowl this year, only to see McCarthy fall flat on his face in the coaching dept.
I was roundly and consistently shouted down in my criticism of Thompson, now I believe both McCarthy and Ted Thompson deserve criticism, but Thompson to a lesser extent than I believed in the past.
After last year I felt that the Packers were stuck in second gear and that changes should be made.
I'm both happy and hopeful now that the Packers are making some changes that were long over due.
I'm hopeful that Ted will continue his short run of productive drafting and that Mike McCarthy will be a more well rounded Head Coach of the entire Green Bay Packers football team.

They had plenty of injuries on defense this year too.

Couldn't it be said that Seattle self shit for 55 minutes? I don't know that the Packers out played Seahawks. I think it is more that Seattle tried to give it away. We refused to take it. Just because Seattle sucked for 55 minutes doesn't mean we were more talented. Or less.

Until I am under contract as the short yardage punter, the team will NEVER have superior talent.

Zero2Cool (14-Feb) : Packers are hiring Luke Getsy as senior offensive assistant.
Martha Careful (12-Feb) : I would love to have them both, esp. Crosby, but either might be too expensive.
Zero2Cool (12-Feb) : Keisean Nixon is trying to get Maxx Crosby and Davante Adams lol
Mucky Tundra (11-Feb) : Yeah where did it go?
packerfanoutwest (11-Feb) : or did you resctrict access to that topic?

Mucky Tundra (10-Feb) : Funny observation I've heard: Carson Wentz was on the sideline for both Eagles Super Bowl wins w/guys supposed to be his back up winning
Zero2Cool (10-Feb) : NFL thought it would get more attention week preceding Super Bowl.
Zero2Cool (10-Feb) : Yes, the Pro Bowl. It was played Sunday before Super Bowl from 2010-2022
packerfanoutwest (10-Feb) : pro bowl
Zero2Cool (10-Feb) : From 2010 to 2022, it was played on the Sunday before the Super Bowl

Mucky Tundra (10-Feb) : seems to me the 49ers should have traded Aiyuk when they had the chance
Mucky Tundra (10-Feb) : if the Eagles get it down to the 1, do they Tush Push or give it to Barkley?
TheKanataThrilla (10-Feb) : 49ers have a money problem if they want to sign their QB
Mucky Tundra (10-Feb) : Wait for real? Didn't he just get an extension two years ago?
Zero2Cool (10-Feb) : 49ers gonna trade Deebo. Interesting
TheKanataThrilla (10-Feb) : Replays always never seem to show the holdings
TheKanataThrilla (10-Feb) : Great throw by Hurts
Mucky Tundra (10-Feb) : Where Carter falls prey to bad off the field influences (to be clear, not saying he'd clip someone though)
Mucky Tundra (10-Feb) : Had Carter not gone to Philly were they already had a lot of old college friends, he ends up in a similar spot to Aaron Hernandez
Mucky Tundra (10-Feb) : I think some of his coaches told scouts to stay away
Mucky Tundra (10-Feb) : the street racing incident+conditioning and motivation problems
beast (10-Feb) : Then Carter was street racing, where the other car crashed and people died... and other teams were scared to pick Carter for some reason
beast (10-Feb) : I think the Saints traded up, giving their next year 1st to the Eagles, and then they sucked and Eagles got the 10th overall pick
packerfanoutwest (10-Feb) : wtf Barkley?
TheKanataThrilla (10-Feb) : Getting Carter and Nolan Smith in the first round in 2023 was pretty darn good
Mucky Tundra (10-Feb) : for some reason i'm thinking of a draft where the Eagles where in the mid 20s and a top player fell all the way to them
TheKanataThrilla (10-Feb) : I think so. I would need to look it up. Think it may have been Carolina's pick.
Mucky Tundra (10-Feb) : i'm not sure who i'm thinking of now
Mucky Tundra (10-Feb) : oh fuck me i messed that up
Zero2Cool (10-Feb) : Jordan Davis was 13th overall
Zero2Cool (10-Feb) : Carter was 9th overall
Zero2Cool (10-Feb) : Eagles had 15th and 10th selections, moved to 13 and 9 to get Davis and Carter back to back
Zero2Cool (10-Feb) : Eagles traded up for Carter, didn't they?
Mucky Tundra (10-Feb) : Obviously he was a huge risk but getting a top 5 talent on the dline in the mid 20s is fortuitous
Mucky Tundra (10-Feb) : Jalen Carter falling into their lap certainly helps
TheKanataThrilla (10-Feb) : And we could only wish to have this type of D
TheKanataThrilla (10-Feb) : It's not like Philly has had low draft picks, but has managed to get themselves a top notch pass rush. We spend so much draft capital of D
packerfanoutwest (10-Feb) : another crap halftime show
TheKanataThrilla (10-Feb) : I think it is over, but then I think of Atlanta and want Philly to go in with the same intensity in the second half
