The latest Ourlads Mock has all of the top 8 teams passing on the QB prospects. That has me thinking:

1. DAL will jump all over Manziel at #16 if he is available.
2. Other teams will be jumping all over us and our #21 pick to get their QB before CLE picks again at #26

Should make for a very interesting draft if they all decide to wait on picking their QBs. HOU, JAX, CLE, OAK, TB and MIN all need QBs. AZ might even want to jump in at the position. You know they all have their favorites, and waiting could prove to be very high risk.

Maybe Ted trades down from the #21...

I think this would be the worst scenario for us.

If no QBs are drafted in the first 20 picks then most good players will be gone and the BPA might be just one of the many WRs that may or may not result to be a great player. Brading Cooks, Marquese Lee, etc.

I don't think any team will be willing to trade with us if ALL Qbs are available, they are a shot in the dark so most teams will prefer to just stay put and draft Manziel, Bortles, Carr, Bridgewater, whoever is available because they are all the same kind of gamble.

On the other side if some QBs get drafted then a team might want to trade with us because they are running short of options at Qb.

So it's curious my thinking is yours but exactly reversed.

How is their track record? They have Deone Bucannon as the 13th overall pick, which seems odd when most mocks I've seen have him in the 2nd or 3rd round. They have two centers in the second round when I don't think I've seen any of them been given a grade better than 3rd round. Bryan Stork, whom they list at 55, is projected as a 7th round or priority free agent by both CBS and NFL. Based on what others are saying, a quick glance at this mock looks really odd. Maybe they know something but I would be inclined to be skeptical about this mock.

That might be a realistic scenario without the odd picks this particular mock makes.

For christ sake, Christian Ponder is an early first round pick. It could happen this year, but I would be really surprised.

It is THE strangest mock I have seen to date, but it is somewhat in line with rumors that QB needy teams may in fact wait it out. This is good to see just for a bit of a check going in a week ahead. I can't imagine this happening, but, I can see it being possible. That is a lot of teams standing there in need of QBs.

3 Centers taken in the first 2 rounds?

I'm not at all surprised by 3 Safeties flying off the board before our pick at #21. Last year's SB showcased the importance of good S play, and this is a copy cat league... Buccanon is my personal top choice for S in GB.

The problem is that right now there are four draft slots (Eagles, Chiefs, Bengals, Chargers) between GB and the first team that might be drafting a QB. Assuming that the competition would be to get a given quarterback before Cleveland, GB may be too far away. To get in a "in demand" position for those QB-wanting teams, they may have to trade down 2-3 spaces first.

Not that this scenario is beyond the range of possibilities. If Calvin Pryor or Jimmie Ward is on the board, the Bengals might want to leapfrog Philly (and of course the Packers) to get him. Or if Mosley is on the board, either Cincy or SD might want to jump ahead of Philly.

But just sitting at 21 isn't as likely to be in demand for a QB-seeking team.

The good thing for the Packers, ISTM, is that they are situated in a position where multiple positions might fall this or that way to be attractive. In addition to Mosley and Pryor (who a lot of people here would be upset if Ted Thompson traded away from, I expect), there are several CBs (DennardFuller, Verrett, Roby), a couple TEs (Niklas, S-J), OL (Martin, even Botonio), DE (Tuitt), that more than one team might have fallen in love with.

That, together with the plethora of 2nd/3rd/4th early talent, and with the variety of QBs available in the same way, is why I think a scenario of 2+ trades down is actually a real possibility.

Of course, given my predictive abilities, that means what'll actually happen is Ted causes massive heart attacks among Packer fans by doing a Lawrence Welk to get Sammy Watkins.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Just saw this:

If Macarroni is gone before our pick then Bridgewater, Manziel and Bortles should be gone too and maybe Carr.

If that happens then a really nice player could be available at #21
