I don't understand why people are SO excited about this possibility. Sure it would be nice to have him, but come on, are passing targets for Rodgers really our weakness right now? It would have a negligible effect.

I kind of agree, but I also think more weapons the better. A all pro caliber TE could mask our failures on the OL a little bit.

Gonzy could help us pick up some blitz help the o-line improve bring a quality pro bowl TE for the young ones to learn from ... better target for AR

Gonzalez would be perfect for this team ... in every aspect that there is on offense

Better blocking *picking up blitzes ... experience to teach young TE's and amazing target for AR

We have been struggling in the third down conversions this season.. don't you believe that having a target that can chip a lineman and still run an effective pattern wouldn't help this team?

Don't get me wrong.. it is not the biggest issue on this team, but this deal would help this team without a doubt.. look no further back to last Sunday on how much ball control helps a team.. on both sides of the ball.. O and D.

But I think it probably is false hope...

As Thompson always says (doesn't always do however...) He is always looking for ways to improve the team. Gonzalaz would be an improvement over our current TE's. So My guess is that Ted Thompson is looking into it. What he figures is TG's value? That is anyone's guess.

I don't think theirs any rock that Ted hasn't looked at or not tried to turn over. I kind of think that Ted uses a plastic fork to lift a boulder and when it doesn't happen, walks away.

I think his blocking ability would be as important as receiving for the Packers at this juncture. I know he's a heck of a receiver but do not know how he grades out as a blocker. Many really good receiving TE's are not that great in protection.

He definately poses an additional concern for defenses when you put our other receivers out there with him. Somebody's going to be open.

From what Gonzalez has indicated, he wants to be a Giant. Would Thompson really pull the trigger on a player that wants to be else where? More than likely, no.

Gonzalez Wants to Be a Giant

Tony Gonzalez wants the Giants, but do the Giants want him?

That question will be answered by 4p.m. Tuesday , when the NFL's trading deadline arrives. Gonzalez, the future Hall of Fame tight end, has requested a trade from the Kansas City Chiefs. And not only has he asked to be traded to a contender, but he specifically mentioned the Giants.

So far, the Giants have only expressed a lukewarm interest, reportedly offering a sixth-round pick. According to various reports, the Chiefs are looking for either a second- or a third-rounder.

Giants GM Jerry Reese declined to confirm or deny those reports, saying only, "We investigate everything. You guys know that."

The Eagles, Bills, Packers and Buccaneers all have been mentioned as possible suitors.

Fun to dream about.

espn reports green bay never made a reasonable offer and also tony wasn't that interested in playing in green bay (could that be the backlash of how Ted Thompson handled this off season )
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)
