Packers general manager Ted Thompson ignored all avenues to add depth at safety in 2013, be it the NFL draft, undrafted free agency or veteran free agency.

This article makes it sound like the Packers didn't even CONSIDER or explore the opportunity to pursue guys like Rhodes. How does Brian know this for sure? Yet another poor article, imo.

One thing I've noticed in recent years is Ted getting away from that BPA philosophy.

This past year he was drafting for the running game. Last two years, for defense.

And btw, Ted did draft Hyde this past year. He could very well be the S of the future.

Go figure.

For one thing a huge amount of the S from this last Free Agency have been complete busts. Rhodes hasn't been signed by any team and for as good as he is to ignore that and blame Ted for "not even looking at him" is just ignorant. Also he uses Michael Huff as an example of a guy we could have looked at??? Baltimore paid Huff 2 million dollars to completely suck full-time for half the year and get fired yeah that looks like a great move. I'd rather pay Jennings 300k to suck half the time.

As far as how "great" this last draft was for S that remains to be seen. A lot of guys were drafted early and are getting playing time but that doesn't necessarily = good. Most of the guys who were drafted early around our 1st round pick haven't looked much better than Datone and most of the overall class is struggling. The only real guy I'd say we missed on is Tyrann Mathieu.

McMillian had some flashes of good last year so I'm not surprised they expected him to make a jump and improve but in hindsight yeah it didn't work out and now Jennings is playing when he should just be a back up. I think it's time for some accountability and it should be Banjo full time. He may not be great but he hasn't sucked as much as the other guys.

What I said was you never once heard Ted say he drafted Hyde to play S. If you go back and read his comments he did say he drafted him to play CB. If he and Mike change their mind in a year or two or three that has nothing to do with what happened this Spring. No one expected Woodson to play S for the first 10 years he was in the league. Circumstances change.

Hyde plays a great CB. Instinctive, tough, good at locating the ball and reacting, able to blitz effectively, and, a returner we can count on! He has been a great surprise addition through the last draft, with like impact upon our team as Bakhtiari and Lacy. All three, about as solid as can be for rookies. I'd rather keep Hyde at CB. He's shown very well to this point.
