When the standard was Nick Collins, it's probably hard for Packers GM Ted Thompson not to be picky about who is going to play safety for him.

Apart from Vaccaro, Elam, Rambo and maybe Cyprien, I don't think that any safety in this draft class would immediatly fill that void. And all of those guys would mean using our first rounder or trading up in the 2nd. Rambo, of course, being the exception to that, most likely, but he has some character concerns.

That said, this is one heck of a safety class. I think that, if you feel like McMillian can step in for a year, you could get quite a project and an eventual starter a bit later on with a player like Tony Jefferson (if you don't look into his combine too much), Josh Evans or Earl Wolff.

McDonald has the flexibility to play strong or free safety. He has good instincts and is a hard hitter, too. If the senior has another good season, he could be a first-round pick. 3/9/13: McDonald notched 112 tackles, 6.5 tackles for a loss, three passes broken up and two interceptions in 2012. He was a physical enforcer for the Trojans' defense. McDonald had impressive days against Stanford and Utah, but struggled versus Oregon. He put on a quality showing at the Senior Bowl. McDonald was okay at the Combine. He looks like a straight-line safety for the NFL.
