Question. Are we still trying to run that hideous zone blocking scheme? If we are then I think that's our biggest problem first and foremost. IMO Teds wanted to replicate what shannahan did in denver where we can just get any ol back and have them run for 1000 yards a season so he could focus higher/more draft picks on other positions.

Benson up the middle for 2 yards isn't gonna win you any games (unless those are all goal line runs, which they weren't).

It doesn't matter a whole lot if the backs are getting the ball and running into a wall. Get Barry Sanders in his prime and maybe with his ability to reverse fields he could average 3 yards per carry behind this O-Line's run blocking.

Cedric Bendon is a running back that requires at least 20 carries in order to be productive and useful as he gets stronger as the game goes on. He isn't a burner, he's a bruiser.

Our scheme isn't built for his style, and McCarthy is going to end up calling pass plays. A back like Maurice Jones-Drew, Reggie Bush, or Darren Sproles would be a better fit.

The problem (which isn't even really a problem) is we pretty much use Randall Cobb the way I'd use Alex Green.

I was on the boat that wanted to draft LaMichael James and got sickened when the Niners traded up to grab him.

Say what you want about Ryan Grant and James Starks, but they averaged more than 4 yards a carry, even against the 49ers.

1. Benson or Starks. Frankly, I don't think it matters. Barry Sanders might be able to get serious run yardage with the Packers' typical quality of run blocking, but I'm not sure anyone else could.

2. I don't know if its the ZBS, a philosophical predilection of McCarthy/Clement/Campen toward finesse and "tricking" the defense, or just bad run-blocking skills on the part of OL. As macbob might say, it's doubtless some of all of the above.

3. What I do know is that there never seems to be a "1, 2, 3 ...DOMINATE" attitude on run plays. I thought players like Lang and Sitton at least were supposed to be bad-attitude tough guy types. But I never see it on run plays. I just see a bunch of fat guys in tights.

I want Forrest Gregg (the tackle, not the coach) and Gale Gillingham back! Not people who appear to have learned their run blocking skills from Mrs. Colledge.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

I don't think anything will change unless we get a different OL coach. I like Campen as a person and being a Packer, but I think the OL is far from reaching it's potential. Unless he's just coaching what MM and/or Clements want, then it's on them. It's really a sad running game when 3rd and 1 is a passing down.

I say stay the course with Benson. It looked like he was close to getting through a hole and breaking one open a number of times, but our offensive line just isn't the best run-blocking unit right now. I think they'll pick it up as the Packers run more.

I liked everything about our offense Sunday except that Rodgers interception.
