The guy I could see taking over Woodsons current role if it were necessary is Jarrett Bush. As far as I can tell he's always been a pretty reliable and willing tackler and his coverage skills wouldn't be tested nearly as much as an outsider CB. He's got the right physical body type and size for it too. I believe they used him in that position to blitz quite a bit last year too.

Bush is among the candidates, though I could see him getting a shot to play safety, too.

I think the lockout last season had the biggest impact on then second year players.. guys coming off their first season as a pro. How to handle it.. how to stay sharp and focused on the next season.. and in the Packers case how to handle success.

Shields played so well as a rookie.. that I have a hard time thinking he will not regain that form.. especially when getting humbled last season with struggle.

IMO, I think being a pro player is almost more about what you do off the field than on it, guys coming into their first offseason as a pro and then being locked out.. it has to have an impact upon their development and carry over from the rookie season. Vets have been there before and could somewhat keep themselves on schedule. Incoming rookies are just anxious to get there.. that the lockout impacted them but not to the same degree as players coming off their rookie year.

Season is over.. what now and you haven't been there before.

I’m going to roam a little bit. It’s different than corner. It’ll be fun to play more safety. It’ll play to my advantage.

I find it scary Bush will be starting at rcb. He is a liability in man coverage. In my opinion, Shields will eventually beat out Bush for the starting cb position next to Williams. Shields is playing for his job right now and that tends to bring out the best in a individual. Sheilds has to much speed to just toss him aside. His problem was his toughness and ability to tackle. I feel Sam can overcome these obstacles and return to his starting role. Bush will be utilized on special teams.

I don't care what Jarrett Bush did in 2010 or before that. The fact is that since the Superbowl he has been pretty good in coverage. Now that is with limited playing time so we have to wait and see what happens if he gets more snaps but I'm not so down on seeing him on the field as I would have been a few years ago. I'm not going to let things that he did before cloud my judgement of him now and IMO people shouldn't hold the past against the guy so much.

Bush just might be a slow developer. The Packers have spoiled us because so many young players contribute immediately. However, Bush's transition to the NFL has been a slow one. I’m just speculating (haven’t seen any practice), but he may just now be reaching the point where he can start. It took him six seasons, but his timing couldn’t be better, as Green Bay needs a couple of corners to step up.

Bush knows all the guys on the team and has practiced against them for years. He's Mr. August. I like him better in the slot, blitzing the QB and stuffing the run than on the outside covering man-up down the field.

If anyone supplants Shields, it's gonna be House or Heyward. But I still think Shields is gonna bounce back from this.

I love Bush. That pick in the Super Bowl was for all the dipshits that picked on him unmercifully - including myself. But, he is not starting material. He is our special teams ace that has the ability to fill in for an injured player anywhere in the secondary, and that is the role he should relish. Bush is just not starting material in this league, but he is a valuable player for the Packers, and I hope he always knows his role.

I want House and Heyward to step up and take the starting and nickel roles and push Shields back to dime. They have the pedigree of the high draft picks. We've had a lot of busts in the second and third rounds at corner - and I'm hoping the H boys change that for us.

And I like Wood at safety. He is a cerebral player, and very much needed calling out the defense. Using the Nick Collins injury as a reason to move there is a great way for an aging player to salvage pride with declining physical skills. In the meantime; Jennings, Levine, and McMillian can battle to be the next guy to step up.

Bush got that INT in the Superbowl filling in for Woody at the slot position.

Right now he's lined up on the outside. I don't think that fits him as well.

Zero2Cool (3m) : I think the revenue share is moot, isn't it? That's the CBA an Salary Cap handling that.
bboystyle (15m) : i mean game becomes irrelevant if we win tonight. Just a game where we are trying to play spoilers to Vikings chance at the #1 seed
Mucky Tundra (24m) : beast, I would guess ad revenue from more eyes watching tv
Zero2Cool (45m) : I would think it would hurt the home team because people would have to cancel last minute maybe? i dunno
beast (53m) : I agree that it's BS for fans planning on going to the game. But how does it bring in more money? I'm guessing indirectly?
packerfanoutwest (1h) : bs on flexing the game....they do it for the $$league$$, not the hometown fans
Zero2Cool (1h) : I see what you did there Mucky
Zero2Cool (1h) : dammit. 3:25pm
Zero2Cool (1h) : Packers Vikings flexed to 3:35pm
Mucky Tundra (1h) : Upon receiving the news about Luke Musgrave, I immediately fell to the ground
Mucky Tundra (2h) : Yeah baby!
Zero2Cool (2h) : LUKE MUSGRAVE PLAYING TONIGHT~!~~~~WOWHOAAOHAOAA yah
Zero2Cool (3h) : I wanna kill new QB's ... blitz the crap out of them.
beast (3h) : Barry seemed to get too conservative against new QBs, Hafley doesn't have that issue
Zero2Cool (4h) : However, we seem to struggle vs new QB's
Zero2Cool (4h) : Should be moot point, cuz Packers should win tonight.
packerfanoutwest (4h) : ok I stand corrected
Zero2Cool (4h) : Ok, yes, you are right. I see that now how they get 7th
Zero2Cool (4h) : 5th - Packers win out, Vikings lose out. Maybe?
beast (4h) : Saying no to the 6th lock.
beast (4h) : No, with the Commanders beating the Eagles, Packers could have a good chance of 6th or 7th unless the win out
Zero2Cool (4h) : I think if Packers win, they are locked 6th with chance for 5th.
beast (4h) : But it doesn't matter, as the Packers win surely win one of their remaining games
beast (4h) : This is not complex, just someone doesn't want to believe reality
beast (4h) : We already have told you... if Packers lose all their games (they won't, but if they did), and Buccaneers and Falcons win all theirs
Zero2Cool (4h) : I posted it in that Packers and 1 seed thread
Zero2Cool (4h) : I literally just said it.
packerfanoutwest (4h) : show us a scenario where Pack don't get in? bet you can't
Zero2Cool (4h) : Falcons, Buccaneers would need to win final two games.
Zero2Cool (4h) : Yes, if they win one of three, they are lock. If they lose out, they can be eliminated.
packerfanoutwest (5h) : as I just said,,gtheyh are in no matter what
Zero2Cool (5h) : Packers should get in. I just hope it's not 7th seed. Feels dirty.
packerfanoutwest (5h) : If packers lose out, no matter what, they are in
packerfanoutwest (5h) : both teams can not male the playoffs....falcon hold the tie breaker
packerfanoutwest (5h) : if bucs win out they win their division
beast (5h) : Fine, Buccaneers and Falcons can get ahead of us
packerfanoutwest (5h) : falcons are already ahead of us
beast (5h) : Packers will get in
beast (5h) : If Packers lose the rest of their games and Falcons win the rest of theirs, they could pass us... but not gonna happen
packerfanoutwest (5h) : they still are in the playoffs
packerfanoutwest (5h) : If Packers lose the remaining games,,,,at 10-7
Zero2Cool (7h) : We can say it. We don't play.
Mucky Tundra (8h) : But to say they are in is looking past the Saints
Mucky Tundra (8h) : That said, their odds are very favorable with a >99% chance of making the playoffs entering this week's games
Mucky Tundra (8h) : Packers are not in and have not clinched a playoff spot.
buckeyepackfan (9h) : Packers are in, they need to keep winning to improve their seed#.
Mucky Tundra (18h) : Getting help would have been nice, but helping ourselves should always be the plan
beast (18h) : Too bad Seahawks couldn't beat Vikings
bboystyle (18h) : We just need to win Monday night and were in
Mucky Tundra (22h) : Or ties, but let's be real here
