I think that it comes down to what the other guys are going to be able to do as far as the cornerback position is concerned. If one of those guys can take over that role and make the plays that need to be made at corner . . . with Nick Collins leaving, [and if] they need me to play safety, I’m not opposed to that. But I think that we have to make sure that cornerback position is going to be solidified and we’re comfortable with who is going to be out there at the corner.

Last year, the way it went down and how poorly defensively we played, it was evident that we needed some extra push. So I was very excited.

Pretty much echos what we've said a few times. If there's an abundance at CB, and shortage at Safety, he'd switch, otherwise, it doesn't make sense. Listen to the whole 17 minute podcast, well worth it.

This is good news. Sort of puts to rest the troubled image Woody had when he played out in Oakland.

“I didn’t want to come here,” Woodson said this week. “That’s what it boils down to.”

Woodson and McCarthy make an unlikely marriage, the cornerback and the coach he often clashed with. Woodson described their private talks that led to an understanding, along with a healthy amount in fines. Asked what caused the fines, Woodson responded in a single word, “Everything.”

I did see where he was calling out the Oakland coach back in 2003. Perhaps this was in the back of my mind. Not that I blame him. Team leaders have to lead.

Charles Woodson, Oakland's star cornerback, was embarrassed by his team's 23-13 loss to the Lions on Sunday and said Raiders Coach Bill Callahan had lost his team.

''It's no secret at this point,'' Woodson said.

Oakland (2-6) has lost four straight and looks nothing like the team that lost to Tampa Bay in last season's Super Bowl. The Raiders are off to their worst start since 1964, when they were 1-7-1.

Woodson said the Raiders were ''falling apart'' because Callahan was too headstrong.

I remember some saying he was over the hill, past his prime and couldn't finish a season. I hadn't heard (that i remember) that he was cancerous or anything. Everyone on the Raiders disliked Bill Callahan, lol. I bet RaiderPride can attest to that or tell me I'm wrong, lol.

I just think Woodson struggles against good receiver/quarterback combinations and has to revert to holding too much. He's awesome in the slot though but the other teams bitch about him playing outside the boundaries of the holding rules and he is being called for holding more and more.

We have Williams, Shields, House, Hayward at corner

Wood and hybrid

Burnett, Peprah, and McMillian/Levine/M.D. Jennings at safety

I'm pretty confident we'll have better play from the secondary, plus they'll have a huge chip on their shoulder this season.

He's a pass interference penalty machine. All the refs are on him. I love the guy, he's trying to hang tough, but let's get real.

Sounds like he's saying all the right things.

wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic

Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
