The numbers from last season speak otherwise.. that is all I am saying. [grin1]

That wasn't a comment or knock on Jordy's performance.. it is more on the underrated value that some apply towards Jones.

Rookie mistake: Never let numbers get in the way of a good unvalidated blanket statement.

Cobb outstretched his body for multiple catches across the middle of the field, including one high zinger from Rodgers. For now, the punt-return job is his to lose but his role on the offense is still unknown. Right now, he's the fifth wideout behind Greg Jennings, Donald Driver, James Jones and Jordy Nelson. A good problem for the Packers to have.

Loved this part from an article in another thread, here.

That's one of the reasons I'm not that happy with signing Jones back. You can say all you want about having a healthy rotation and that we "don't have a real starter", but there no way you have enough balls to go around for 3 talented receiving TEs, 2 RBs with good hands and 5 very good receivers.

Or, of course, we'll have to shatter the single season passing record by throwing for roughly 7000 yards.

So while we still have the luxury of being stacked at a position, we go out of our way to sign a WR who has some of the most frustrating lapses in focus I've ever seen and drops all kinds of balls because of it.

Maybe the most sensible thing would be to, indeed, cut Driver. He's not the receiver he used to be and is obviously on the down side of his career.

Secondly, I'd like to keep that 5th spot on the roster open for a young project type of player. It's not like we're going to get a lot more production than a catch or 10, going by Swain and Holliday numbers.

Cobb is a guy who could easily come in and put up Jennings-like rookie production if they let him. Maybe he'll still get some looks, but I doubt he'll get that good a chance, being burried under all those receivers.

And lastly... Remember the borderline situation we had going on last year? When Finley got all those targets that Jennings would've rather had?... I can't see any way that you're going to avoid that with this roster, barring some injuries. Nearly all these receivers are all playing for contracts, they won't like that their production is going down.... It's obviously on the things that stung Jones a bit in FA, as well.

Next to dropping every 3rd ball thrown at him, of course.

Those are valid points, Rockmolder. The WR position is definitely crowded this year. But next year will be different. Driver will most likely be gone, and Jordy will be up for a new contract. They could be down to three good WRs in a hurry. Jones and Nelson are similar in ability, and maybe Ted's thinking was that he should lock up Jones for a few years at a reasonable price rather than let him go and also risk losing Nelson next year. If that's the way it played out, they could have been down to just Jennings and Cobb in 2012.

Also, I'm less sold on the TEs than you are. Finley is great, but he could easily be gone next year. Quarless was unimpressive as a rookie. Obviously it's way too early to know what we have in D.J. Williams. He's a fifth round draft pick, and it would be a bonus if he had an impact as a rookie or even in his second year.

I have said in the past that with this receiving group, Rodgers could break 4000 yards by Week 14. I hope I am right.

Even though you hit like a 6 yr old girl, punch yourself in the ding ding.

And no (for those who said otherwise - not you Zero), Jones is way better than Jordy. I like Jordy too but Jones has a lot more natural talent.

Watch them both run routes. Jones gets more separation. By far. You pretty much have to throw perfectly to get Jordy as he never gets much separation.

What Jordy has over Jones is concentration.

Jones is also tougher. In a fight for the ball, I'd take Jones over most DBs in the NFL.

I think James Jones runs a better route, but Jordy Nelson has more straight line speed and as said above, better catching concentration.

A guy who can rack up 5 or so TD's in a season while dropping 4 more potential TD's I think is someone who needs work, not quit on.
