I didn't know that the votes were cast during the regular season.

My rage has not cooled, it just has a different target... why don't they take the post-season into account? Does it take a whole month to count to 50?

McCarthey will never be popular with the press. He's Pennsylvania pudgy and his eyes don't line up right. Hey don't get mad at me, I don't write the rules. I'm just glad he's our coach. Aaron is the player he is because of McCarthey.

I don't know. I wouldn't mind the awards being voted until until after the Super Bowl is played.

Then play the Pro Bowl and at half time, announce the winners.

But I'm not surprised Mike didn't get a vote.

Belicheck also made a team out of no names like Ben Garvis Green and Woodhead or whoever the hell the guy they got from the Jets was

McCarthy can't win without a team full of tested, overpaid veterans!

How many star players do the Patriots have? They've got Brady and Wes Welker on offense, although Welker was coming off an injury and probably not 100%. They have a very good O-line too, I'll give them that. On defense, they've got Vince Wilfork and who else? It was impressive what the Patriots did with mostly a young, no-name defense.

So, what you're saying is, they have a veteran QB and a star O line, and a reliable guy to catch the ball. They don't have our WRs but they have everything else that's key to a productive offense.

Where I think McCarthy deserves more credit is on the defensive side of the ball. Unless I'm mistaken, we've lost a lot more players on defense since the beginning of the year on the defensive side of the ball than NE has. When you have an entire offseason to prepare, it's a lot easier to mold your team into a cohesive, functional unit than it is with a flurry of injuries midseason. This team plays as a team, and a lot of these players had never worn a Packers jersey at the beginning of the season.

That fact alone should get McCarthy at least one vote. I'm not going to argue that Bellicheck doesn't deserve the award, but McCarthy getting no votes is BS. That being said, I'd much rather he have a superbowl ring.

Belicheat  is the AP Coach of the Year.

Mike McCarthy didn't get a single vote.

Not one.

What a fucking joke.

Yes, the Patriots do have the talent for a productive offense. It is not overwhelming talent, though. The O-line is really good, but other than Brady and Welker, they don't have anybody notable at the skill positions. Yet they were the #1 offense in the league, I think. They were very efficient.

Still, it is their defense that was most impressive. Yes, the Packers lost more players to injury, but they still had Clay Matthews, Charles Woodson, Nick Collins, and B.J. Raji, who are all elite or nearly elite players, plus some prominent second-tier guys like A.J. Hawk and Cullen Jenkins. How many Patriots defenders can anybody even name besides Vince Wilfork? yet their defense really came together in the second half of the season.

As for the idea that others have about how the playoffs should count for these awards, I don't agree. The playoffs are their own reward. If you give the awards after the postseason, most of them will be won by players on playoff teams--especially the Super Bowl winner. Those players have more of an opportunity to shine than those on non-playoff teams.

Also, why do people think that McCarthy should've gotten at least one vote? Do they expect one of the voters to vote for McCarthy out of sympathy, even though he had no chance to win the award? You vote for the guy you think deserves it most, period.

I think Zero hit it on the nose. The votes are done before the end of the season. Look we were predicted to be in the Super Bowl by the majority of people and then here we don't even win our division and have to sneak into the playoffs.

I think Morris should have won it. Look what he did with that team, they were 3-13 and then this year had the same exact record as our beloved Packers.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

Typical voter mentality.
GB was suppose to be int he SB so if they succeed it is not worthy of COY honors. If there is a bunch of injuries and under perform that is not worthy either. When the replacements for the replacements do succeed it is too late in the season for the voters to take that into consideration.
It is a shame.

No doubt he did a great job and should have been in consideration as he was, but they were helped out massively by their pathetic schedule. They didn't beat a single team with a winning record until week 17 when the Saints pulled Brees in a close game that didn't matter to them anymore.

Yes we earned it but we also snuck in, if the Giants don't blow a 21 point half way thru the 4th quarter lead we are sitting at home right now.

So yes we won when we had to, but we also got very lucky the Giants had a major meltdown.

Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season

Martha Careful (22-Jan) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
