I think Zero hit it on the nose. The votes are done before the end of the season. Look we were predicted to be in the Super Bowl by the majority of people and then here we don't even win our division and have to sneak into the playoffs.

I think Morris should have won it. Look what he did with that team, they were 3-13 and then this year had the same exact record as our beloved Packers.

GB did not SNEAK into the playoffs. The earned the right.

Yes we earned it but we also snuck in, if the Giants don't blow a 21 point half way thru the 4th quarter lead we are sitting at home right now.

So yes we won when we had to, but we also got very lucky the Giants had a major meltdown.

Don't tell me you are going to play the what if game?

1. Without the penalties on Chicago's last 2 drives GB would have beat Chicago in game 1.
2. If Crosby's FG attempt didn't hit the cross bar GB would have beat Washington.
3. If not for the missed call by the officials when they claimed Francois lined up too close to the center on a Miami punt in the 4th Q GB would have won.
4. If sure handed Jennings didn't drop the pass and ARod suffer a concussion GB would have beaten Detroit.
5. If ARod didn't fumble on the goal line GB would have beaten Atlanta.
6. If- well let's ignore the New England game. We could do all kinds of what ifs here too.

You can't (well I guess YOU can) say if another team had won more games then GB would have not made the playoffs. Of course that is true. the point is they were not as good as GB so they are going to lose some games they were expected to win. Almost every team is going to lose like that once in awhile. That is a part of the NFL season.

GB earned the right to play in the SB. The won when they had to. They bet the teams they had to when they had to do it. There was no backing in.

Cast based on performance in the regular season or not, with the Packers winning the SB with the injuries they endured throughout the season, the fact that MM did not get even one single vote is complete and total BS.

It's not just that the award is based on regular season performance--the vote is taken before the playoffs begin. As far as the voters were concerned, the Packers barely made the playoffs, and there was a good chance that they would be one-and-done.

And considering that each voter gets only one vote, rather than picking a list of three or five or ten coaches and ranking them, it's not at all surprising to me that McCarthy didn't get a vote.

I think it's fairly obvious why these awards are voted on before the playoffs. As one sportswriter (I think it was Peter King, but I can't remember) noted, had the votes been taken after the playoffs, McCarthy would probably have been a unanimous pick. Sportswriters being the pathological bandwagon jumpers that they are, if these awards encompassed the playoffs, no coach whose team didn't make the playoffs -- and probably, very few coaches who didn't win it all -- would ever have a chance of winning the award. Voting toward the end of the regular season puts all the coaches (and in the case of the MVP, the players) on a level playing field.

Sort of. For the reason stated above, late season runs will always be weighted higher than early season dominance.
