Starks should have gotten in on name recognition alone.

I know Rodgers should be higher on the list but I have mixed feelings about the pro bowl. Especially if we are still in contention. Football is not a sport that you can have a game that really doesn't count for anything. Baseball can get away with it because injuries are unlikely but it is hard to look at the pro bowl other than just a glorified preseason game.

When I first read the posts that Greg Jennings didn't deserve to be in the PB I left it slid. Curiosity got the better of me and I went to look at the stats.

Just comparing the NFC WRs-
Jennings is 8th in total receptions with 72. But there is more than total number of receptions to be considered.
He is 2nd in yards with 1168.
1st in TD receptions at 12 (tied with Calvin Johnson)
3rd in 20+ yard receptions
3rd in 40+ yard receptions
7th in first down receptions
4th in the percent of receptions that go for first downs. (I arbitrarily used 65 receptions as the min as that would be a top 15 player in the NFC and top 25 overall.)

Overall he is just as good of a choice as anyone to be the 3rd /4th WR for the NFC.

And these stats area all after his drop in the Lions game! :)
Kidding aside, it is nice to see him get recognized, even if the pro bowl is hard to get into.

So, the Pro Bowl has direct ties to the playoff picture? So much for fan votes, players votes and coaches votes, just check the playoff picture.

Don't be daft.

Year after year you see players whose teams are hot or hyped making the pro-bowl. Brees just won the Super Bowl, Ryan has taken his team to the playoffs with a possible top-seed and Vick is the story of the year. Sure you could say it might have been a toss-up between Rodgers and Ryan...but the Pack haven't looked as good as the Falcons this season and people are fickle voters.

I agree with Twinkiegorilla.

+1.

It's become awfully popular around here to shout that Jennings is overrated.

There's a difference between making Chuck Norris jokes about him in the "Greg Jennigns is Awesome" thread and objectively looking at his body of work.

He could've gone after his 2008 season and he's very much deserving this year.

Don't know why everyone is so down on the Woodson selection, either. Don't get me wrong, this season isn't close to his DPotY season... But should it have to be?

Did he get in on his coverage skills alone? I very much doubt it. Career high in tackles, forced fumbles, a lot of passes defended.... He could've had a lot of interceptions.

He's still that guy who's always in the right spot to make a play.

Raji and Sitton are definite snubs. Raji should've gone in over Ratliff and Sitton could go in over Carl Nicks. I'm not sure who should make place for Williams, but I would've loved to see him at the Pro Bowl.

The good thing is, we'll see one or two more Packers, I reckon. Tramon's a first alternate. Maybe Woodson will be his key to the Pro Bowl. Rodgers is a first alternate. Sitton just "an alternate". If the Saints make the Super Bowl again, two guards and a QB will be out, clearing the way for both Sitton and Rodgers.

Of course, I'd rather just win the SB.

Tramon will be in next year, barring some kind of injury, if he has another season like this. People are *just* now learning his goldarn name. Not sure why so many are so surprised. The Woodson selection is similar to the Brees selection...he's the reigning DPOTY with a very high profile. I think the Jennings selection is more interesting than him simply being "selected" because it's likely a sign that he is finally starting to get the recognition he deserves.

I agree with Twinkiegorilla.

I agree about Raji, but come on Sitton over Nicks? It would be painfully obvious that Nicks is better than Sitton even without profootballfocus research to back on, Nicks is far and away the best guard in the NFC this year. But Jahri Evans and Chris Snee seem to have gotten the 'reputation' pick over Sitton, since Evans and Snee haven't actually had the kind of seasons that put them in the Pro Bowl last year.

But Sitton is not just a Packer homer pick either, a lot of sites are voicing their dissatisfaction of a pedestrian performance by Snee going over Sitton to the Pro Bowl. Sitton has 0 allowed sacks this year. He should definetly be there.

Okay, let me put this differently, he had the chance to go over Nicks.

You don't beat out Ehvans. He should've had a season ending injury for that to happen. Snee is doable, but he had a very solid season, himself.

Sitton has been facing some of the best DTs in the league. Look at the NFCN... Tommie Harris, BJ Raji, Kevin Williams and Ndamukong Suh. That's quite a group of DTs.

The most iconic of Sitton's skill was when the Lions DTs stunted, Suh got on Colledge for the first time in the game and also got his first sack.

Nicks also has a little help from his friends. Just about the entire line is going, or has recently been, to the Pro Bowl. You can have some slipups that way.

Like I said, I believe that Sitton could go in over Nicks. He could go in over Snee, as well.

agreed with what Twinkie said.

Plus
Brees - 4400 yards, 32 TD - 21 INT, just won the super bowl holding his cute kid
Vick - maybe league MVP
Ryan - 3500ish yards, 26 TD, 9 INT, leading best team in conference
ARod - 3700ish yards, 27 TD, 10 INT.

Someone couldn't make it, I'm not at all surprised it wasn't Aaron. Greg C.made a good point about him coming on a little too late in the season as well.

But Rockmolder, you miss the fact that Nicks has, behind the scenes, been the most valuable lineman of the Saints. Stinchcomb and Evans are also good players, but ride mostly on their reputation.

I never disagreed Sitton shouldn't be in the Pro Bowl. Just not over Nicks. Nicks is the best guard in the NFC.

Deaneglo Hall is a horrible cover corner. I believe he's given up more TDs than any other corner. Those 4 INTs Cutler gave him got him in. Tramon over him and Woodson, no question.

Martha Careful (24-Dec) : I hope all of you have a Merry Christmas!
Mucky Tundra (24-Dec) : Oh I know about Jacobs, I just couldn't pass up an opportunity to mimic Zero lol
buckeyepackfan (24-Dec) : Jacobs was just sat down, Watson re-injured that knee that kept him out 1 game earlier
buckeyepackfan (24-Dec) : I needed .14 that's. .14 points for the whole 4th quarter to win and go to the SB. Lol
Mucky Tundra (24-Dec) : Jacobs gonna be OK???
Zero2Cool (24-Dec) : Watson gonna be OK???
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : Inactives tonight for the Pack: Alexander- knee Bullard - ankle Williams - quad Walker -ankle Monk Heath
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : No Jaire, but hopefully the front 7 destroys the line of scrimmage & forces Rattler into a few passes to McKinney.
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : minny could be #1 seed and the Lions #5 seed
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : We'd have same Division and Conference records. Strength of schedule we edge them
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I just checked. What tie breaker?
bboystyle (23-Dec) : yes its possible but unlikely. If we do get the 5th, we face the NFCS winner
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Ahh, ok.
bboystyle (23-Dec) : yes due to tie breaker
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I mean, unlikely, yes, but mathematically, 5th is possible by what I'm reading.
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : If Vikings lose out, Packers win out, Packers get 5th, right?
bboystyle (23-Dec) : Minny isnt going to lose out so 5th seed is out of the equation. We are playing for the 6th or 7th seed which makes no difference
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : beast, the ad revenue goes to the broadcast company but they gotta pay to air the game on their channel/network
beast (23-Dec) : If we win tonight the game is still relative in terms of 5th, 6th or 7th seed... win and it's 5th or 6th, lose and it's 6th or 7th
beast (23-Dec) : Mucky, I thought the ad revenue went to the broadcasting companies or the NFL, at least not directly
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I think the revenue share is moot, isn't it? That's the CBA an Salary Cap handling that.
bboystyle (23-Dec) : i mean game becomes irrelevant if we win tonight. Just a game where we are trying to play spoilers to Vikings chance at the #1 seed
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : beast, I would guess ad revenue from more eyes watching tv
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I would think it would hurt the home team because people would have to cancel last minute maybe? i dunno
beast (23-Dec) : I agree that it's BS for fans planning on going to the game. But how does it bring in more money? I'm guessing indirectly?
packerfanoutwest (23-Dec) : bs on flexing the game....they do it for the $$league$$, not the hometown fans
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I see what you did there Mucky
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : dammit. 3:25pm
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Packers Vikings flexed to 3:35pm
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : Upon receiving the news about Luke Musgrave, I immediately fell to the ground
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : Yeah baby!
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : LUKE MUSGRAVE PLAYING TONIGHT~!~~~~WOWHOAAOHAOAA yah
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I wanna kill new QB's ... blitz the crap out of them.
beast (23-Dec) : Barry seemed to get too conservative against new QBs, Hafley doesn't have that issue
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : However, we seem to struggle vs new QB's
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Should be moot point, cuz Packers should win tonight.
packerfanoutwest (23-Dec) : ok I stand corrected
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Ok, yes, you are right. I see that now how they get 7th
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : 5th - Packers win out, Vikings lose out. Maybe?
beast (23-Dec) : Saying no to the 6th lock.
beast (23-Dec) : No, with the Commanders beating the Eagles, Packers could have a good chance of 6th or 7th unless the win out
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I think if Packers win, they are locked 6th with chance for 5th.
beast (23-Dec) : But it doesn't matter, as the Packers win surely win one of their remaining games
beast (23-Dec) : This is not complex, just someone doesn't want to believe reality
