Has anyone watched Merriman play in the past two season.. then try and quantify his salary into that production. Not worth a waiver claim.

If he passes waivers and we could sign him on a interim basis that he could prove he still has worth, great. Then try and ink him in the offseason for a longer term.

Maybe he will be hunger and play.. or maybe he pick a new B level porn star to make headlines with in his new city. ;)

I can agree with you about him not being worth the salary for sure. But if we can get him for cheaper, I'd LOVE to have a hungry player with that talent on our team to rush the passer on 3rd down, possibly more if he earns it. He's probably not great or even good anymore, but I'm not convinced that he wouldn't be an improvement over Zombo. Dude's got a lot to learn yet.

Also, any locker room troubles are the least of my worries with him.

But once again, I can't imagine this happening so it's probably best I'm not a GM.

Shawne nor Randy will be a Packer. We're trying to find spots for our three PUP guys as it is. lol

You guys advocating for Moss are crazy. The last thing this team needs is a quitter, prima donna, has-been. If the dude wasn't happy playing with Brady or Favre, what makes you think he'll be content with Rodgers?

Ludicrous.

Couldn't agree more. What the hell are people thinking? We see him go to Minnesota and watch what happens there in a little over THREE WEEKS!! I don't understand how we would be any different than the desperate Vikings or even than the Cowboys for that matter if we picked up Moss, even if we TRY to pick him up. I can't believe I'm reading this stuff.

Why I would be glad to get Moss:

1. When he's motivated, he's still very dangerous. You don't think he'd love to get a shot at burning Childress and the Vikings for cutting him? Please show me one secondary in the NFL that could successfully defend a motivated Moss, Greg Jennings, and a healthy Donald Driver in 3-man sets?

2. Moss would be gone after the season. He'd be a rental that would cost the team nothing. If he's a head case in the locker room. You can just let him walk and be out nothing more than financial considerations in an uncapped year at the end of the season and he can go and be someone else's problem.

3. Even unmotivated, he still commands double teams. Look at how much the passing game opened up for Percy Harvin after the Vikings got him? Just him being the field opens up a lot of other opportunities for the offense.

4. We are a pass first, run second offense. Minnesota is basically the complete opposite with Peterson having to carry the offense with a mediocre and banged up Favre behind center. Rodgers has proven to be a competent QB and would have no problems getting the ball to Moss not to mention just having more opportunities to have the ball thrown his way.

There's risk with anything you do in the NFL, especially bringing in a controversial player like Moss. That being said though, McCarthy has a hell of a lot more respect of the players in his locker room than Childress has in his. Any avenue we can get to make our team better with minimal cost should be looked into. Do I realistically think the Packers will get him? No, because were so far down on the waiver claim list, and that's assuming Thompson would even put a claim in on him in the first place.

Moss - No. I wanted him the first time he left Minny, but not now.

Merriman - Maybe. Merriman has been more or less constantly hurt since the 'roids. He played very, very well for a while after that incident (before getting hurt). He's got production left, that's for sure.

As for the roster spot, the way Tramon Williams has been playing, Harris would probably be our nickel CB. And Peprah has looked very, very good over the last three games or so - a rusty Bigby probably wouldn't be much of an upgrade.

I'd rather activate Starks so we can see what he can do...

Merriman has not balled since off the roids. Why the attraction with him?

"digsthepack" wrote:

To be clear, I don't think the Packers should pick him up. But the above statement isn't necessarily true. The 'roids thing was in 2006, and he got like 8-9 sacks that year after he returned from suspension - in 2007, he played in like 15 games and had at least 12 sacks. 2008 and last year, those are what you're talking about, and they were due to injury.

My estimation is that his knees are shot - he either has those flare up on him or he gets hurt somewhere else, probably because he's trying to baby the knees.

So no, I don't think he's worth it because of chronic injury problems - but the whole "he hasn't done anything since the 'roids" argument isn't quite accurate, IMO.

Agreed, big-time. If the guy's not going to put out a little for Favre and after the state of Minnesota volunteered to come down with amnesia, why does anyone think he'll hustle for the Packers?

I rather thought he'd be motivated by getting a shot at the Patriots for first refusing to show him the money and then trading him to the Vikes. And I was wrong. Why is everyone so convinced that he'll be 'motivated' in Green Bay?

I don't think Moss would improve our offense. He is a bigger threat than any of our current receivers on any given play, yet throughout the course of the game, I'll take Jennings/Driver over Moss any day.

Glad to see Montgomery gone. He was simply a body, and not a good one at that. Dude needs to stay away from the 3-4.
